Kyla was extremely underrated in London 2012. I wish more people would have realized how great a gymnast she was and how important her role to Team USA was at the time. That said, I'm glad she's having her moment to shine in NCAA along with Katelyn Ohashi :)
@@lorigbasmajian3843 she was beaten out by Aly and Gabby in qualifying- and only two per country can go to a final. She did so beam final in the next two world championships and got a medal both times. Same with the all around.
@@nathanielhalls1893 I agree but she at the very least could've done the double tuck in series. She'd have got herself a 0.1 series bonus, probably wouldn't have overrated her dismount in quals and made it to the beam final
She has some of the best connections I have seen in a long time . Also, I don't think she gets all the props that she deserves considering she was a first year senior at the time!!!!
i come from a smaller city in orange county called aliso viejo, and that’s where she’s from! went to my high school and everything. she’s a legend, so proud!
I feel like London was a really disappointing olympics for loads of gymnasts. Kyla Ross could easily have medaled in the beam finals if she'd qualified
I am hard pressed to see much difference between this routine and Aly Raisman's - just looked almost flawless. She's changed so much, as have most of these young ladies, who have the growth spurts and are no longer able to do all the tricks. Vika is a prime example- she really sprouted.
So true. I remember seeing Komova at 2015 worlds and thinking “I don’t remember her being that tall!” I wonder if some of her back problems that kept her from going to Rio stemmed from having grown that much. It can happen.
How can they call her “not flashy”? My God, she is flawless. This routine is difficult, graceful and artistic. She nails every landing. If she would have competed in Paris, she would have knocked Simone Biles off the podium. Simone rarely has clean landings like this.
in NCAA gymnastics they compete every weekend for months, plus they don't have as much time for practice, so their routines have to be more basic than their crazy cool and hard routines in elite.
@@agneseditsstuff + there all student athletes and most of them are on scholarships that pay for most if not all of there expenses/tuition getting hurt bc of a crazy hard skill is basically saying bye bye to all of that
I just watched her 2017-2018 beam routines for college gymnastics, beside this is way harder, her legs looks LONGER here too (compared to her recent videos). How is that possible? She couldn't get shorter could she? How do her legs get shorter?
She had a growth sprout- now at 5"7- one of the taller gymnast for UCLA...she was just 14 here or just turned 15 - young not too much muscles as what she have right now
It’s called puberty... It’s when humans grow drastically and produce hormones that wreak havoc on the body. Estrogen for women will create breasts, longer torso, and wider hips (to allow for bearing children if one chooses). This may have created the illusion of shorter legs in Kyla; although I’m sure her legs grew as well. To me she looks beautiful and well proportioned.
My how the scoring has changed. A lot of high 14s low 15s on routines that would have been scored 13s to 14s today. Watch the 2012 Russians on tbe BB during the team event in London. Some of the scores were more than generous.
that's due to scoring changes! the code of points had significant universal downgrades in the 2017-2021 code vs the previous codes in the new scoring format, just to bring all scores down numerically, not because anyone was being scored improperly
It was almost perfect clean. But tbe long pauses hurt her for being to too cautious. The longer the pauses you the more deductions and no connection bonuses. The aly ans gabby attacked their routines with minimal pauses. If she only dis the same I think she wouls have been 9n the finals and win a medal.
mariam it happens to almost all of the college gymnasts. Look at Brenna Dowell. Look at Elle Golison. Itzzzgenny quite unfortunate. They lose a lot of their fluidity and grace.
Being an Olympic gymnast requires way different training than being a collegiate gymnast. Also don't forget she's a kid here and a woman today so yea maybe she's a little thicker but not fat and in better shape than everyone in this comment section XD
Completely not true..she had more difficult moves than Simone did in Rio on the beam..keep in mind, Kayla nailed a clean front tuck on beam whereas Simone seriously faltered on her front tuck on beam in Rio and almost fell off the beam...Kylas tumble moves were a lot harder
