Valeri didnt pace her well, i think after nastia and rebecca bross in 2012 , he kinda wanted redemption and i dont wanna say he was a bad coach , because he was a horrible coach and thats an understatement , he didnt pace her properly and caused her to develop so many injuries and his strict coaching along with the karolys caused her eating disorders and mental disorders, i cant comprehend how she could have been so successful
Her beam routine was insanely hard, much harder than anyone else. Why did it have to be that difficult? Even now no one does a layout full and definitely not in combination.
She's so fantastic at UCLA. She smiles and dances and is my favorite gymnast to watch, and she still occasionally does the layout full on beam (when Val lets her throw it, haha). She just got two 10's in a row on beam earlier in the season. It's great to see her having so much fun when she was so serious as an elite.
Yes she should’ve been an Olympic medalist but look how depressed she looks in this it wouldnt be any different but she got a break and she is happier now so look on the bright side
2019? And its weird seeing her like this, not cause she is ALOT younger its because she isn't wearing her beautiful smile that makes everyone else smile:)
I'll never understand how she was capable of doing a full-twisting layout in combination SO CONSISTENTLY. Such an incredible gymnast, glad to see her happy and killing the collegiate game nowadays
watching her do this routine makes me sad. she was so good and even at the end when she did her dismount she barely smiled. you can tell how much happier she is at ucla.
Fate was so unkind to Katelyn. She should've been a World and Olympic beam gold medallist. I just love how she worked so high up on her toes! That's going to be a big deal in next year's COP.
@@colleen_schaner Don't be so stupid. As if some invisible man in the sky destroyed her career by injuring her and having her sexually abused and bullied by coaches. You God botherers are nuts. Shit happens. She got unlucky. She was amazing on beam and i wish she'd got to the Olympics. Now at least she's happy in college gymnastics, but your invented man on a cloud sure as shit didn't have anything to do with anything. So if you get run over tomorrow and lose your legs, you will think God did that on purpose, you dumb dumb
That was the most difficult beam routine I've ever seen and my absolute favorite. They sacrifice everything & the amount of pressure they have.... She deserved a Gold for that. A layout on a beam plus, a standing half-twist back flip into another flip. I've never seen any gymnast able to do that before.....
I know she's a happy gymnast now, competing NCAA, but it still kinda sucks that we didn't get more of this beautiful and insanely difficult gymnastics.
No offense but what you're actually saying is that you'd prefer watching her compete in elite, eventhough you know the abuse she suffered and her messed up mental health as a result of that, than leaving her in college competition. Just for the fun of watching her. Sad.
X Gartzia Jou No offense, but your comment is extremely rude. What gives you the right to tell me "what I'm actually saying" and in doing so, imply that I'm some kind of awful person? It's a shame you're not capable of civil discourse. Sad. I enjoy this level of gymnastics better than NCAA. NCAA is watered down and is so lenient you could have bobbles, leg separations, and other obvious deductions and it still gets a ten. It's boring. What sucks is that she (and others unfortunately) suffered physical and emotional abuse training at the elite level so that competing at the NCAA level was the only way for her to be a competitive gymnast AND be happy. What sucks is that for her and others, competing at the elite level, being able to perform this kind of beautiful and insanely difficult gymnastics, and being happy and healthy are mutually exclusive. But if gymnasts had to choose between competing elite and being unhappy and unhealthy or competing NCAA and be happy and healthy, I would rather gymnasts be happy and healthy any day of the week.
Shame about the series of injuries. She would have been Olympic champion for sure. If only the injuries had happened after at least the World Championships in 2013. She would have deserved at least one World Champ experience. Such a sad career story.
Yes but simone became strong across all events , katlyn had only beam , i think simone could also win beam dont forget she started getting high 15s latr in the quad , like katlyn wasnt the only one !
I think what gets me about Katelyn is that she such a contender for the Olympics but she was unhappy with her being there and competing. It just goes to show you that just because you are great at something, does not mean it is good for you to do. She did not waste her potential or miss out on anything. She took care of herself which is all anyone could and should ask for.
I just loved it during this competition, because gymnasts like Jordyn or Sarah Finnegan where the favorites on this apparatus, but Katelyn just kicked them in the ass.
Shes so much happier now. It looks like she needed to be in a more positive environment for her talent. She looked highly talented on beam. Im not a gymnast but love watching it.
@@bethanymclean2136 I dont think all the time. She wasn’t really injured here, she was peaking and doing great. She definitely was starting to have ed problems and maybe felt like gym = work, but the injuries and intense pain came in 2013.
One of the differences between the Elite and NCAA gymnastics seems to be the atmosphere and the camaraderie within the NCAA team. The NCAA women are encouraged to have a lot of fun and do their best, but mistakes are tolerated which was not the case with Marta. If you were Elite and you messed up in competition, you were invisible and expendable, so the pressure to be as perfect as possible could get overwhelming. The Elite girls understood that mistakes were not tolerated and that can mess with your mental health. Katelyn’s injury is what I call an inconvenient benefic event. It eventually led to restoring her mental equilibrium and she now has a platform to espouse causes important to her.
Wow I'm just finding out about this girl bcuz her one of her more recent floor routines went viral but damnnn she's been doing this since 2012?!! Soo fucking amazing my god
This beam is extremely difficult and she was probably the best in the world for her age yes. But you don’t see this going viral like her UCLA floor and there is a reason
no they are not. i think that any element that is suppose to be higher than a D is only counted as a D. so there D score is lower in juniors than a senior
Is that the guy that told her she looked "like an elephant" and that she looked like she "ate a pig"? The look on her face when he hugged her coming down from the stage makes me think "yes"
Katelyn is gonna be the name everyone will be mentioning during the next couple of years. I'm tellin you she is gonna be huge, she's the future of USA's gymnastics. Can't wait for Rio.
