I like how they don't even question Kylie living, eating and sleeping at Fox's house. I really wonder where he lived before the events of the movie. Maybe we can get a Kylie prequel to this film one day to explain things. I'd watch it in a heartbeat

Kylie is just a general all-round good guy, the one everyone likes.

Fun fact: Altogether, 535 puppets were made for this movie. Mr. Fox had 17 different styles alone, and each of Mr. Fox's styles had to be done in 6 different sizes. He has 102 puppets alone.

As someone with ADD myself, I can assure you that "swirly eyes" thing is very real. Especially when he's still technically aware of what's going on but he's still spaced out. (Edit: swirly not squirrelly)

Just watched this movie a couple of days ago for the first time. One of my favorite animated films of all time

I like the read on ADHD (especially as a fellow haver) but to me I personally always read the eyes as like almost a form of dissociation? The swirly eyes seem to come up in different and often traumatic moments so I always kind of assumed it was just the representation of his full withdrawal from reality. Anyway thanks for this one! Definitely one of the best wes side characters

Seeing the whites of Kylies eyes at all times is really the cutest thing.

I love FMF so much and have watched it hundreds of times, always loving Kylie. Somehow I never focus on him though because of the fox family and never notice all the times he helped, contributed, and just did his own thing honestly. It’s nice to see somebody give him that spotlight he never had in the movie because he was constantly overshadowed by mr fox

Fun fact: The character of Kylie was based on a handyman (named Kylie) who was living in Wes Anderson's New York City apartment when he purchased it from painter Larry Rivers: "After I bought it, he continued to live there while the place was gutted, but eventually I had to ask him to move out."

The point about his world traveler titanium card is such a good observation for why he's in the UK. Just another little detail that makes the film even better 🤏

Honestly as someone with adhd, I can say that kylies ADD is completely accurate. Just zoning out. And not paying attention all the time. So yeah I can confirm this is a pretty good hunch lmao

thanks so very much Karsten for the Fantastic Mr. Fox content, as soon as i saw this i kept it in an open tab waiting for a good moment to watch it. i love FMF more than anything and i found out about it from your old FMF video. that decision to watch it made me become apart of my favorite community ever and meet my best friends where we still commit to this movie after a year. what i'm saying is, it brings me so much joy to see a creator like you make content about FMF; i'm seriously grateful for videos like these. This video is especially great, talking about an underappreciated character and his role in a way i haven't seen talked about before. I love analyzing media but you manage to provide new perspectives on a movie i've been watching for years. not even just in this video either; you seriously are like the FMF analyst master and i love hearing you talk about it. sorry if i'm acting overly thankful or just weird, i really do love what you've done here and with your previous Wes Anderson related videos too (as well as non-Wes stuff). anyway all that was just petty filler so i could hopefully convince you now to make an analysis on Kristofferson who i think is a really important character besides everyone disagreeing and not seeing it. I really do believe he displays a contrast which highlights the themes more and brings out wonderful detail. (he's also just really awesome and like the best character ever made) seriously though this video RULES and im excited for everything you'll do next, FMF related or not.

as someone who loves fantastic mr fox this was such an unexpected surprise but nevertheless i love it! for me, i truly resonate with ash. maybe because i'm a teen and i also feel ignored alot but he is just so raw and one of the best depictions of teenagers in film ive seen so far. but i really do like kyle and the eye thing is so damn cute :D

Well this was certainly an unexpected delight! One of my favorite characters from one of my favorite movies.

I think it’s more about how Kylie doesn’t absorb info in the world and doesn’t advocate for himself because he’s scared. So instead of consciously living he’s playing dead

This is… I’m sorry… fantastic. ;) I also agree about his ADD traits. I’m neurodivergent myself, and I definitely related to Kylie. And a little bit Ash, as well.

Kylie was always a good and believable character that kind of helps hold a great movie together. He was, to put it in Fox's words, "to be available", and it really kinda worked that way, and this was a good read of his character. He still had his own quirks down to even his name (Kylee is basically a female take off Kyle), yet he was still more grounded amidst all the crazy plans. His line about thunderstorms was also kind of hilarious, because it was nearly identical to a conversation me and my sister had when she was younger. She always insisted thunder was the frightening part, and it was a struggle at her age to comprehend the difference with lightning. So Fox's early dialogue about Kylie's phobia was always a funny bit that... honestly, probably helped make this movie one of my favorites. Upon a first watch, it was just an okay family movie. Some of the little quirks like that stuck around longer, and coming back to the film, it quickly unraveled into one of the best movies I've known the more it settled with me. ... though another thing I remembered was Fox being wrong about blueberries. One of the few foods my beagle never ate, she just rolled it around on the ground until she got bored of it.

Is his ADD something stated within the movie? I have ADHD Inattentive Type (formerly known as ADD) and I honestly can't think of a single instance of intentional representation of ADHD in media, let alone good or bad. You can interpret a character as having ADHD in some way, but it'd be really nice if I didn't have to interpret anything and if it were just canon. No, I haven't watched the movie, but it seems fun regardless so I've always planned on giving it a shot.

I honestly thought swirly eyes was part of stress snd Fox hadn't been THAT stressed until he almost got ragdolled by a rabid dog. Like that seems to be the Closest Fox had been to death in the entire movie and it freaked him out for a bit. While Kylie is much more of a regular dude. He didn't live like Fox so he understandably becomes stressed over things Fox doesn't.

My brain : remember that funny fox movie with that ambiguous animal allegory.

I never really paid attention to kylie when i watched this movie (the few times i have watched it). This was a really interesting dive into a character i always thought was cool but didnt really care about until after watching this movie.
