Track # 9 from Kylie Minogue's Self Titled Album
"Falling" was written by Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe, collectively known as the Pet Shop Boys. The group were approached by Deconstruction after they had finished work on their album Very (1993); initially, they declined, but Lowe came up with a set of chords that Tennant found similar to Kylie's work with PWL; a demo with a very 80s feel was sent to Deconstruction, where it was reworked by Pete Heller and Terry Farley, collectively known as Fire Island. Tennant found the final mix very different from the original demo, stating "It doesn't really have the same tune in it, for instance, and they haven't put the chorus in, but I suppose that's very modern".
The song employs elements of house music, with Kylie speaking the lyrics over sung backing vocals. The song runs for six minutes and forty-four seconds; an alternative mix, included on the re-issue of Kylie Minogue, ran for eight minutes and forty seconds; this version of the song features more spoken verse by Kylie, as well as a laugh as the outro to the song.
