Kyosho Pegasus First Run as Kevin MK2

I took the Kyosho Pegasus out for a run, the tires were pretty much useless and it would not stop spinning the rear tires and sliding all over! It was still good to see “Kevin MK2” out for its first drive! I really need new rear tires!!
You guys are all awesome and I appreciate all the great comments and questions from everyone. Really enjoying talking to you all in the comments section.

It is bouncy in the rear like a hopper for sure! The poor thing had no traction at all. Between the almost bald tires and the silicone I put on them to pretty them up previously it was like driving on ice! I am trying to find a decent pair of the rear tires and get these replaced. Once I do it will get back out and see what it can actually do!

Hi Addam, really it's true, when you don't have something batter what you have is a wonder. Returning back in the years this car gave a lot of fun and wonder and today we must appreciate the existence of these models that perhaps are not so performing but without them now we have not our top cars. I love these buggies. Sadly those poor tires were more for decoration than usable traction! I am trying to find a better pair to replace them with. Once I get some grippy tires I will get.it back out for a proper run. I also have so.much work to do on the track to get it in better shape!!

Yeah between the mostly bald tires and having treated them with silicone to try and make them pretty it was like driving on ice! I was hoping it would wear off and get a grip eventual but they did not! i am searching for a decent pair currently and once I find some it will go back out for another go to see what it can do with some traction! It did make me smile to see it out running around after who knows how long!

It did as well as it could with the kind of bald tires, I am on the search for a decent set of rear tires for it. Once I find a pair then I will get it out for a run with some traction! I will also get the track cleaned up and smoothed out too!

Thanks John! The track looks decent on camera but it is super rough and bumpy! I am looking for some better tires for the buggy and also plan on getting out and cleaning up the track. Once it has some tires on it I will get it out for a much better run!!

It was a real struggle to get on the gas and not spin out, the poor tires are almost bald and the silicone oil I put on them to soften them up and make them look good did not help either! I wish the onboard camera had done better, it is usually a whole mot more stable than that. I had a bunch more footage of it running around in the yard but it was so rough and bouncy I wouldn't dare use it. It was making me queasy trying to edit through it to find a decent clip or two! I'll get some better rear tires and get it back out again!

Thanks Will! It was cool but the next to no traction made it difficult to keep it in a straight line! I'm looking for replacement rear tires and once I have some on there I will take it back out and see what it can really do!

Yeah, running on ice was about the best description of it! It did not want to get grip at all! I was hoping the silicone would kind of wear off and the grip would improve but it was a good mix of next to no tread and the treated tires. They cleaned up easily though! LOL! It was fun to see it run and I am looking for some rear tires and once I find a reasonable set I will get it back out for another run!

Yeah, even though I got it fully to have a runner and not care too much about it once you spend all that time getting it as clean as possible and looking good again I don't want to rough em up! I have my beater cars like the Arrmas for that type of silliness. once I get some decent rear tires I will get it out on the track and try to get some decent laps in with it! Between the bald, slick tires and how rough the whole track is it was next to impossible to get up to speed and control it! Thank as always for the support bud!

Yeah, those rear drive shafts do make a unique noise and it is a bit bouncy in the rear! It was fun but those tires were just about useless! Once I find a better set and get them on there I will get it back out for another run with some traction! Thanks for the kind words and support!

Great to see the Pegasus out for a run. My dad built one when I was a kid and of course I had to play with the new toy. I'm sure it's still in his shed somewhere, maybe I'll have to get it out for a retro-mod restore.

You need to go dig it out if it is still in there! They seem to be fairly resilient and just need a good cleaning and manual flexing of those arms to get them back in good working order. More than likely the pivot points will be very stiff and the shocks will be stuck but some love and it will all be working again!!

See what you mean about those tires, slippery. So cool having a track but yeah, maintenance is another time consuming part of the hobby if you have one. I struggle with time and life getting in the way but would still love to have a track one day. Buggy looks incredible, nice piece of RC history. 👍🏻

Yeah between nothing but little rounded nubs on the tires and me putting the silicone on them to soften them up and make them look pretty they were more less useless! I am search now for a decent set of tires to put on there and get it out for another run! I really enjoyed bring it back around and looking good, it is a very satisfying thing! Take care!

LOL, thanks Brent! It was struggling a bit on those slick tires! I know now that mostly worn out tires with some silicone on them to pretty them up is a good recipe for a drift car! It was still fun to see it out after who know how long!

I have been looking for both a Rocky and a Raider. I have not found the right ones yet. Either too beat up or too perfect and cost an arm and a leg! I am always on the look out for cool stuff. I may have a source on a Raider, we will have to see what happens with that.

Great to see her running matey! Your a brave man running her around the track...... The amount of times I've done a vintage restoration in view of being a 'runner' then bottled it at the last minuit! 🤣 It's so hard after putting in all that work and seeing it look so perfect to then take it out and get it filthy! And, great it survived with no plastics breaking to.... which is quite often the case on the first run of a recently restored ageing car! I actually enjoyed the on board footage, we recently tried that ourselves on our Dukes of hazzard video by strapping an iPhone to the front of a lunchbox - the footage came out really poor, jello effort I think it's known as. Yours was lots clearer than ours. Great run mate, and nice to see the track in action again fella. 👍 👍 👍

Yes it is not the easiest thing to get it all clean and pretty and then take it out and get it dirty and possibly damaged! I bought this one as a runner since I don't plan on running the Bandido very often as it turned out so cool looking! Once I find some better rear tires for it I will get it back out for a run with some traction. I think it will be a lot more fun! The one board footage is from the little Insta 360 camera. I have a love hate relationship with it. It works really great when all the settings are right but for some reason it refuses to maintain those settings so if I forget to double check them before running it ends up all shaky like it did. Sadly the cell phones just don't have the stability technology built into them to take away that much shaking around so it is always going to be a bit messy looking.

Hi Addam! The Pegasus is a wild spirit on and off the track! LoL! A nice fun run with this just to stretch its legs a bit! I think this looks and still performed well. Nothing a good do it all tire can’t fix. If you do get new tires ,it would be interesting to see the handling improvement it makes. I look forgot seeing that! It is a really cool little buggy and I love it. The tires really hurt it a lot though and it was really hard to keep it in the straight line! I am hunting for new tires now and once I find a pair it will definitely get back out for a run with some traction and see what it can do around the track! That little Insta360 camera seems to have a mind of its own, sometimes the fottage is really stable and nice and other times it is like there is no stabilization at all. This time around it was really rough and that was the only bit of onboard i got that was remotely usable, everything else was terrible. It was still fun to get it out and run it around for the first time in who knows how long since it's last drive! Thanks as always for stopping by and checking things out Robby!

So the original, beat up body had to of the old school labels on the back with the kids name on it, Kevin. So (thanks to John Foster) this one is now known as Kevin MK2. The Kevin body is hanging up on the wall of my shop just because i could throw it away, it has some cool Toy Story vibe to it! LOL! Once I can find some decent tires for it I will take it back out for another run. It will be much quicker with some actual grip to the tires!

Thanks, it did pretty good for running slicks! I am hunting for tires for it currently and once I get some it will be back out for another run with traction! That little Insta360 camera gives me a fit all the time. I get it set to take good, stable footage and when I come back to it there is a 50/50 change it has reverted back to some other setting! I forgot to check it and ended up with a ton of onboard footage that was useless! It happens and I had enough ok footage to scrape together something!

Yeah, the tires were a struggle for sure! I am not sure what went wrong with the little onboard camera, all the footage was terrible with it but I had not changed any settings since last time. It was just a bad technology day I guess. The Buggy worked well (minus the traction issue!) so that was what really mattered! It did go well once up to speed so hopefully I can find some better rear tires for it! Thank as always Bob!

I am working on hunting down some currently and once I am able to get some I will get it back out for a run with some traction!! The one board footage is from the little Insta360 camera. I have a love hate relationship with it. It works really great when all the settings are right but for some reason it refuses to maintain those settings so if I forget to double check them before running it ends up all shaky like this. It is frustrating since I had a bunch more footage recorded but it looked like it was in a blender! LOL!

@@AddamsPlayground Yeah I was thinking about a new camera as well. Been using the Gopro Black 7 For years. Now I am finding my phone is just SO much better than the Action cameras as far as quality? WOW. But then the 360 also gets you that onboard ability because of it's size. But I totally get your settings issue.

Yeah, mostly bald tires that have been treated with silicone do not offer the most grip at all! It was like driving on ice! I was hoping with some donuts and the dirt of the track they would get a little better but no, they remained useless! I m looking for some replacements in better shape to try to give it a fighting chance! Once I do it will head back out and hopefully go in a straighter line!

The buggy looks great. You did an excellent job on it. I am always amazed how the front tires on this buggy and others of the same era were so thin and spindly. Today you might see them on a drag car, but that's about about it. Are you going to name other cars?

Yeah it really does have some pizza cutter front tires. Those had more grip than the rear did 😂! This one only got named since it originally had a name on it. It just seemed fitting to keep it going. I am trying to find the old school label maker I have somewhere to make a Kevin MK2 label for it to keep it true to the original!!

Yeah there is a little backstory to the name of "Kevin MK2"! The original body it came with had two of the old school label maker labels on the back of it with the kid's name on it, Kevin. So after I got it all rebuilt and the new body done I was a little sad the Kevin was gone so one of the viewers suggested Kevin MK2 for its new name. I am trying to scrounge around in storage here as I know I have one of those old label makers. If I find it, then it will get a labels made for it! LOL!

Thanks! Yeah, the silicone will help soften up the old tires and makes them looks pretty. I have never done it before but since I didn't know it was going to make them super slick I figured I would give it a try on these. I thought a little bit of running would wear it all off and they would be back to normal. I am trying to hunt down a decent pair to replace them with and once I do I will get out for another run with some traction!

What a terrible buggy but l really want one Addam lol, l was surprised the front suspension seemed to be working better then the rear? Looked that way to me but could of been those silicone coated tyres? Turns well! Something special about the simplicity of this buggy its strange but l am a real fan.

LOL! Very true, it is not a great platform at all but there is something about I absolutely love! The simple design of it and the crazy "living hinge" suspension arm are probably the selling points for me! I like the quirky ones! The rear is a lot bouncier than the font and the front is a lot more settled and smooth. Some oil filled shocks would smooth out the rear a lot but then it would take away from the quirky nature of it. I am looking for a new (well better) set of rear tires and once I get a set I will take it back out and Run it again with some traction!
