Very cool.. I got one on order.. The older style retor, or even vintage cars are just much more fun.. I guess I am showing my age,, but I was 10 in 1985 and I had a Hornet,, and a Fox,, Monster Beetle,, etc... I know the new stuff is faster,, but its just not as fun to me.. Plus, the metal parts like on the Scorpion.. Its just cool..
Love the slo-mo video I have a strong desire to build a two seater adult sized gokart based on this RC car just because the design is so simple, maybe this fall/winter
Thanks, they do handle quite nicely I think and depending on the track could be very competitive I think. My Scorpion is just as quick set up std out of the box around the track as my RC10GT that I've had for years. Good luck today, go get em.
Nice vid mate, I've been ahming and arring about getting one of these, just ordered an MP9 readyset so I'd have to wait for the finances to recover. Hopefully they'll re-release the Optima this year with 2015 being the 30th anniversary.
Dude great footage. Well done. Any trick setting the camber on the buggy. My front wheels seem to be tilted up top inwards. any too to straighten them up?
Thanks, the first vid here is nothing flash but shows it full speed mainly and the last two are mostly slow mo with bits of normal speed in between. Thanks Paul, at the moment it has electrics from an old Losi SC truck. It's a 550 size 12 turn brushed and bushed motor. I think I've seen similar in some Traxxas trucks maybe. It wasn't my motor of choice, it hadn't turned up yet. I ordered a 17.5 brushless but since fitting it found it didn't have enough speed for me so I haven't made up my mind if I'll go with a 13.5 or a 10.5 turn. I have a 100 amp HK ESC lying around to use also. I like the power delivery of the brushed motors but they get too hot I think running lipos as it has a long run time.
Hi thanks for the reply; I asked because it seems from just looking online that this kit in particular is more of a legacy release, with all the associated weaknesses and design flaws that have been improved upon by modern rc tech.. So I guess I'm trying to guage how much horsepower to apply to the model without it flying to bits. Would you think a simple 35-50 amp esc and a brushed and bb, >20 turn would still be fun to run?
No problem Paul, from the looks of the gearbox and drive will handle more power than the geometry of the car will I would guess. In saying that I found it has a very nice balance and drives really well once I fitted the soft compound rear tyres. The mediums were a bit slippery on my hardpacked track. I think that ESC and motor combo would still give pretty good performance and be fun for sure. I guess it depends on how much of a speed freak you are and what sort of surface you'll run on. Less power is more fun on hard slippery surfaces whereas more power is good for loamy sandy type surfaces.
bro chris 1 more question im new in racing RC im on crawler RC so i dont know how to calculate this speed things i already ordered my scorpion but i dont know if this set up will fit it. HobbyWing QuicRun 1/10 Brushless Sensored System 60A ESC w/ 3650SD 13.5T 2850KV Motor is this combo ok for this scorpion? i will not break the truck into pieces?
Modern buggies and tracks are nowhere near as much fun as this type of car and environment. My TRF201 might go like a rocket and jump perfectly but it's nowhere near the fin of my Tamiya Hornet. I think this Scorpion might be the perfect mix of fun and handling.
J m in this video I was using a kyosho high torque brushed motor from a boat I had floating around. It was a 550 size and a bit too heavy for the buggy really. I later fitted a 9.5t brushless motor
