Just an update on Umehina, she had her erikae and became a full geiko this march

@@princerschannel7426 You can follow them in social media, there are tumblrs like miss my loko or geimaiko, there are forums like Tsurukomaiko and Immortal Geisha and such Some of them even have instagram, like Geiko Satsuki from gion kobu

I'm planning to visit Kyoto in autumn and was wondering where to see those dances. Can you recommend the places?

Sure! The Autumn's Odori is very famous and it's called "Gion Odori", celebrated at Gion Higashi's Hanamachi. I think it should be the first week of November. However, know that the tickets for this events are VERY expensive and hard to get. Good luck!!!

I think asking your travelling agency or your hotel would be the best bet.

Actually, from the desctiption: 'Tickets can be purchased online for those with Japanese credit cards, procured through travel agents, or reserved with assistance at the Tourist Information Center in Kyoto Station.' This is for Kitano Odori, but it probably works for other Odori as well.

Tickets for the Gion Odori can be purchased at the Tourist Information Center at Kyoto Station. They cost 3500 yen each - 4000 if you want to participate in the tea ceremony before the performance. You purchase a voucher at the Information Center for the specific date and time you want to see the performance. On the day itself, you go to the theater and when the doors open, go inside and exchange your voucher for a ticket. I went to see the Odori two years ago and did not have any problem purchasing a voucher for the performance the day after I bought my voucher. The theater at that time still had some vacant seats too. Just a warning: they do not have lockers at the theater, so though they might offer to store a large bag for you, it is easier to just bring a small handbag. The seats are smallish and do not have much leg room.

Is not kabuki dance y japanese traditional dance. Kabuki is the theare play by men.

There haven't been any african american geisha yet, though there have been foreign geisha from other Asian countries, european countries,the united States, and south american countries who practiced in Tokyo. It takes a lot of dedication and discipline to even be allowed to try, as well as the person needing to be fluent in japanese. But it's certainly not impossible if that's something you really want to work towards^^

All 5 geisha districts in Kyoto put on their own odori performances :) Miyako Odori is Gion Kobu's and is the most famous. Kamogawa Odori is Pontocho's. Kyo Odori is Miyagawacho's. Gion Odori is Gion Higashi's. And of course, Kitano Odori is Kamishichiken's. Four of the five take place in the spring, but Gion Odori takes place in autumn.

Oh thanks for the info. Thats actually pretty nice to know, as this means i could potentially visit Kyoto during different seasons and still attend such a superb event.
