It's so obvious, but almost no one does. I noticed a few rental bicycle groups roaming around, but the problem with bicycles is you will likely ride past things without noticing them, and if you want to stop at a small cafe, where to put the bike becomes an issue.
Paul, thank you for these great tips. Will be in Kyoto soon for four nights the last week of May, will be following your advice and we will visit your secret places. Best wishes!
Have a great time! Say hello to the dragon for me. Is there anything in particular you are interested in? I have more ideas than I can fit into a single video, so I can maybe make some further suggestions.
Great tips, great footage! One of these days (willl be a few years yet before I'm able to start saving for a trip), I will come visit. It's been way too long (1993 and I didn't get to see much back then due to being on choir tour).
I dont wake up early, but having done it one time in Kyoto, I feel myself pulled from my bed when I am there. I woke up 10 minutes before my alarm, simply because I was afraid of oversleeping.
I have daydreamed about having a subscriber meet-up and play host in a place like Kyoto. Logistics are an issue, Japan being so far away from most people. Probably gotta be a bigger channel first. Another idea is to start a patreon and have content over there that is more exclusive, and patrons could get individually tailored travel plans from me. Thoughts for the future...
I hate to say it but I enjoyed not having tourists in Japan during the pandemic. I visited Kiyomizu-dera and there were barely 20 people there and no school trips because of the pandemic. The buses weren't crowded, but I felt bad for the businesses because a lot of them depended on foreign tourists for income.
