Wait wait wait. I don't want to shut you down, but I do not recommend doing it this way. The menthol tear stick is not designed to actually get in your eyes. If you do, it will make you cry, but it can also cause burning and irritation. Application should be done on your lower eyelid, about 15 millemetres below your actual eye. The warmth from your skin will cause the natural menthol and Camphor in the product to produce vapors which will rise to your eyes and promote tears naturally. If you do get it in your eyes it can be washed out easily, but do not do it on purpose. menthol will irritate the conjunctiva and cornea of the eye. Cry safely, please.
When you put it directly into your eye you may cry faster but that's only because your eye is irritated and is responding to pain. The tear stick is meant to be a way to cry without using pain. So yes, faster, but not exactly what the product was designed for. John Smith
My eyes always fill with tears when I get a prostate exam. Instantaneously. Then the doc asks if I'm ok and I try to say yes but I'm unable to speak for half a minute or so. Clearly I was born to be an actor. But instead of using a menthol stick or doing sense memory, I just need a doctor on set ready to give me an exam. I mentioned this once to my 86 year old father, and he said the same was true for him. We bonded. I never knew dad wanted to be an actor too. He started crying. I went to get a prostate exam.
Not all actors do it this way. Some have special techniques they use to produce real tears. Also, a lot of emotion gets put into it. I can think of something sad that I've been through and make myself cry, or get into character and make myself cry. But this is also a very neat tool to use if someone is unable to do that!
As a child actor (12) I can tell you no one uses that, maybe in theater, but from my experience... never seen that. The way i do it...just get into character and imagine what is around you is real life, imagine you have just traded life with that character, most of the time the tears will come out by themselves, else when they just don't come out i try to leave my eyes wide open for about a minute.
I'm 12 as well, but I am nowhere near where you are. I am in Drama Class, and hopefully will get into a 8th-16th grade drama class at a place near my house.

I taught myself to cry on cue. All i need is 10 minutes to relive someone i thought loved me had a baby with someone else and actually rubbed it in. I call it my "go to wound."
Only lame and amateur actors use that shit. Real actors like DiCaprio, Denzel, etc… have real tears coming out their eyes. Real actor doesn't act, real actor becomes the character.
I agree but some people (like me) have to preform a mini-logue Infront of a class given 1 minute to get into character. I have a very high pain tolerance, so keeping my eyes open doesn't do anything until I get to the 5 min mark, plus I am very numb to my past traumatic events. I can't force myself to cry without given the appropriate amount of time. My drama coach is phenomenal, but she happens to be the most out-going hilarious person out there. Thus while coaching me I'm not gonna be able to keep the tears coming because she will be making me and everyone else laugh. Fake crying should only be used while rehearsing something small, Never Infront of an audience or camera.
Interesting because he actually showed me the capsule. We are going back decades though...maybe mid-seventies. Who knows, maybe it was pulled from the market for some safety reason. I have vague recollections of him saying they contained some sort of 'lime' granules' I guess bleach would work too, or shards of glass :>)

Plot twist he’s been blind ever since this video, don’t mean to be rude but you shouldn’t really be showing people that this is the way to do it, it can cause harm I’m sure and and you should use it like lipstick but under your eye, not in. But overall it shown us it works just didn’t show us the safest way and the correct way to use it, surely U have learnt by now, show us some acting videos too
itsLukeNunn thank you so much for posting this reply. I've been feeling badly intimidated and badly fixated on the elusiveness of crying on command. I greatly admire Hardy and this post completely deflated that issue.
