Very nice review Paul! As a low volume listener, this is absolutely a treat for me as I found the treble to sparkle just the right amount. However, a little bit more midbass would've definitely helped this become a much neutral bright set. I wouldn't mind sacrificing a little bit of subbass for some midbass energy
I do wish they went with the PR1 Pro midbass. Its really hard to increase the upper treble without some tweak to the midbass. I was hoping the midbass would pop a little more at low volume, but not quite. Maybe some different tips
Yep, kinda surprised me as most sets fall off too quick as you lower the volume. If you look at general treble cuves and roll off vs the mids, you can see at the point you can still hear vocals, the treble may be too low. And stage at low volume is even harder as that falls off faster.
Those comply foam tips with the sweat guard are the best tips on the market. It's just enough dampening to stop sibilance from S'es and T's in live vocalists who over emphasize without changing the tone of the IEM. Its also keeping the actual IEM cleaner. They are a little more expensive but they are confortable and worth every penny in my personally experience!
I knew there was another superstar out there. Always have a set handy as they affect frequencies differently than normal silicone tips. Literally anything between the nozzle and your ear will do something, but it helps if it is very low density and approx same material left and right.
pr2 hbb v2 also comes with the electronic tuning,I tried to listen them without filter, they sounded very same.Recently I try to eq them to EJ07 and twilight and pretty much wowed how well drivers are reacting to eq.
PR2 tried something they didn't talk about on PR2. I never pressed it but I have a feeling its not the same or just similar. But yes, all the KZ planars have been EQ-able since PLA13
At this point I'm no longer chasing that ideal out-of-the-box tuning. There's no place close by where I can test new products without actually buying them, so it would take an inordinate amount of money to find a set that's right for me. Instead I resort to EQ-ing. For over a year now, my main driver is still 7Hz Timeless AE. It's far from perfect, but the driver is EQ-friendly. I spent many hours playing with it and finally settled on a setting that kind of puts it somewhere in the direction of Variations, while keeping in mind that driver setup is completely different. Anyway, I ordered PR3 at promo price, though they haven't arrived yet. With all this in mind, this video gives me hope that I could get some interesting results with PR3s as that high extended treble seems an easy target for EQ-ing. Thanks for the video.
Yeah and I would say keep an eye out for other measurements or use the KZ graph as the guide on levels. The 8k on hobby couplers affects the area before and after so that throws off in-ear adjustments. And tips throw off the upper treble values. But yeah, should EQ well once you get a feel for what is real in the graph vs how it is in your ear.
If I wasnt here for like 50 years in the low budget community and knew enough about KZ id buy it. After the fiasco with the filters though especially when I was rooting for them to repair their image, im calling it on KZ permanently. These sets do look cool though but ima save up and find an upgrade to the PR2. Comment me if you guys know any good step ups
Its not an upgrade to PR2, that is closer to S12 Pro. Or you can take the warmer, smoother tuning of Hidizs MP145. Or hang and wait on PR4 or PR3 Pro or whatever might be next
KZ has been on one hand complaining about hobby couplers and on the other, trying to make them measure more consistently on their planars. Started on PR2. I have a feeling they are still working on it and I don't know why they are showing imbalance like that as each driver has been a refinement over the past. We will see as more measurements are put out to see the distribution. The graphs are already showing some weirdness so looking forward to seeing more examples.
The S12Pro but that exceeds your budget I think. If you like bass, Kiwi Melody. But the best planar at the range is S12 Pro or Tin P1max if you can find one at a great price. The most general answer is S12 Pro though.
Too spicy for me. S12 was too much for me, PR2 was right on the edge, with eq it's very nice. PR1 pro is very good too, those two are probably the best from KZ.
If you really want to dive into planar, there are a few reasonable choices while you wait for KZ's next low cost planar. The MP145, Shozy P20, Artti T10. If you just want to try one, I haven't heard T10, but enough people have said it is reasonable that I believe it.
@@PaulWasabii great to hear, i just made the move and bought the zs10 pro x instead.. can’t wait for it to arrive it’ll be my first ever iem experience im coming from a hyperx cloud 2 wireless
If it doesn't really have any nozzle filtering, I wonder if it could be a good idea to mod it with one. Perhaps Moondrop's replacement meshes (like for Chu II) would fit in there with a dab of glue
I tried to explain this on the first couple of sets they tried it. There needs to be a very light damper on the hybrids or a different mesh which is where they went with it. The planar is not quite the same but worth a try when I have some time.

Man metal is hard with the trebles. Some people like very resolving metal sets at low volume and some want turn it up metal sets so if you can pick a direction, that will guide you where to look. CCA Polaris isn't a bad starting point as you can tweak the bass and a bit of treble. It might guide you as to what you would want next.
Interesting! How is the note weight of the PR3 vs the Stellaris? I have PR2 V1 and while tuning is more affable than Stellaris, Stellaris has better note weight (timbre?), to my ears sounds more round. Now that I think about it, I have 5 KZ/CCA DD iems and all of them have timbre that is not my favorite. Not sure what it is and not fully solved with EQ or warmer sources. On your Yuki review you mentioned the difference between a dongle and desktop unit. I don't have any demanding headphones, Do you think getting a desktop amp/dac is still worth it? Thanks!
You should follow your gut, if KZ/CCA seems off, no need to chase that rainbow. I would EQ Stellaris if you have it rather than chasing a better sound. Driver is good. With desktop vs dongles, its not the demanding bit, most dongles will get to volume fine. As you continue your journey in the hobby and picking up more expensive sets, then yes, desktop amps are a slightly different experience than dongles. If you don't want to be tied to a desk, the portables are a step in that direction, like iFi Hip-Dac. Sometimes people chase the perfect dongle and that is where I would say just get powered portable, that is where the jump is versus hopping dongle to dongle.
PR1 Pro was the consistent one, or at least more consistent but harder to drive. PR2 is like rolling dice, there are many people who received the lower treble sets and those are great for the money. Perhaps KZ moved in that direction with the current production, but for a while, there were bright PR2 sets and that is where it got a bad reputation. If you have the ability to easily return it, try PR2.
Hard to drive iems are difficult for me because i only use my phone, and also difficult to return bought iems because I purchase them on retail sellers. I guess i have to wait on the next planar driver iem to be released in the future. Thankss
I have been browsing your channel for about the past hour now and where akros sometimes is too praiseful of a lot of sets. I can barely find a review where you seem enthusiastic about a product, please include a conclusions or final thoughts part at the end so there's a TL;DW version.
That is fair. The issue is some reviewers and I like Tony alot, like what they like and don't like what they don't..If a set doesn't sound like Variations, its not good. That isn't fair. So I tend to stay in the middle and talk to preferences or execution vs saying everything is great. You should be buying to your preferences not mine.
