Thanks TJ for requesting my favourite L.A.B track, L.A.B. was founded by the legendary Kora brothers Brad Kora (drums) and Stu Kora (guitar, keys) and quickly engaged Joel Shadbolt on lead vocals & guitar, Ara Adams-Tamatea from the mighty Katchafire on bass and Miharo Gregory (keyboardist) Kora is an iconic reggae roots band, which originally consisted of four brothers (Laughton, Francis, Brad, Stu) and Dan McGruer. The band fuses elements of reggae, rock, dub, roots, funk, space funk and dub step. Miharo, I’m a singer, song writer, keyboardist and was also the frontman/yarner for the band Nation. Three artists that inspired his song writing were Ben Harper, Van Morrison and Muse. After 15 years of singing, songwriting and working as a session musician, Mīharo Gregory has found a musical home for himself as the keyboardist of L.A.B Ara Adams-Tamatea, a professional bass player since 2002, has played in a number of bands over the years including Katchafire. Best known for his part in L.A.B, Ara is the bands fulltime bassist and Playback Tech. If you have ever had the opportunity to see Ara play live you will appreciate his skill and passion for his craft. Ara owns a one-off custom McPherson wood top bass fuzz, along with some other specific custom units made and gets his precious music gear regularly serviced and repaired and his basses re-strung at the McPherson Workshop. Joel Shadbolt has a long-established music career who has made himself a household name in the NZ music scene as the multitalented frontman for L.A.B. (vocalist and guitarist). Like any self-respecting frontman, Joel has that certain something you can’t quite put your finger on, the upshot of pure talent mixed with a palpable drive. Joel has a Bachelor of Jazz Music from NZSM, BMus, Dip Music Production and Performance from the Bay of Plenty Polytechnic (Toi Ohomai). You should have a listen to another awesome kiwi group Fat Freddy's Drop and Salmonella Dub. One thing that I love about kiwi music is that it incorporates a ton of brass - lots of songs of FFD have a very impressive horn section. Loving it
