I was listening this song when child and enjoying it, now that I know the truth behind this song it break my heart. Barbara was an amazing artist, transforming trauma into poetic lyrics.

What is the meaning? I cannot find English translation.

@@adognamedmoose it is not about translation but about the meaning behind it... The translation is on the video (english subtitle, just under the french one)! The meaning is : you replace "black eagle" by "her dad"... then when you read the lyrics and hear the song you get it... (sadly).

(1997), Barbara révèle qu'elle a eu à supporter le comportement incestueux de son père pendant son enfance mais, à aucun moment, elle n'établit de lien entre cette chanson et son père. the repetition of the lyrics again and again at the end of the songs, is an allusion of her father coming days after days ( or nights) to abuse her. He was like a beautiful black eagle and even so that he abused her again and again, she still loved him. what a powerful song.
@BlueDusk95
@BlueDusk95 3 года назад
It's a forced interpretation made by some psychoanalyst that Barbara never confirmed. She wrote about her father's abuse but never mentioned any link with this song. Singer and actor Patrick Bruel, also of Jewish origin, said it may evoke the coming of the nazi army in France in 1939.

Yes I guess. The eagle is basically a metaphor for her father that used to abuse her when she was young

@@anthonydelannoy1749 it is true, the black eagle is her dad. She said it in writing, just before she died. It is her last words... Everyone in France TV was talking about this.

At the time, people thought it was a love song. It was discovered after her death in her diary that the song was in fact a metaphor of parent abuse ; her father raped her when she was a little girl.
