"The Internationale" is a left-wing anthem that has been translated into numerous languages and is widely recognized as the anthem of the socialist movement. The song was originally written in French in 1871 by the Belgian socialist Eugene Pottier, and was set to music by the French composer Pierre De Geyter. It quickly became popular among socialist and labor organizations, and was adopted by the international socialist movement as its official anthem in 1910. Today, it is still used as a rallying cry by labor unions, socialist parties, and other left-wing organizations around the world.

It does seem to be modified. He likely took it from a video of a choir singing this from 2016, sped it up, and added a static filter to it. The pitch and the choir voice sounds very similar to the video. It’s on youtube if your wondering

Actually, these are updated lyrics for our time. Bragg discussed the project with Pete Seegar, who agreed that a version better suited to the modern age was needed. There are several different versions of the Internationale that have been floating around since the original poem was composed after the fall of the Paris Commune.

I cant exactly remember how I found it but what I do remember is I found it on archive.org while looking for a version of Katyusha, the thumbnail of this particular version of the Internationale had a few red flags hanging in different angles if that helps haha

@@bill5627 That would either make him a hypocrite or a realist. Either way, he massively helped in perptuating and even starting this "revolution from above". Either way, totalitarianism and leader-worship, are antithetical to socialism and marxism. You could argue with "on authority" and with the dictatorship of the proletariat, though these fall rather flat.

This is true. It's worth noting that Lenin's totalitarian actions were largely consequential or directly a part of the War Communism program during the Russian Civil war, and thus were an unnatural evolution of socialism. The course of the revolution was to democratize (as an umbrella term) directly and conventionally after socialism under siege, undoubtedly. Shame Stalin happened.

@@dalfokane sure sure, and the Russian communists did not promise to get all the benefits out of nothing for all people in the shortest possible time:) But in the end, the people lived (and live) in poverty, while the party elite did not deny themselves anything. This is the essence of communism - to build a tyranny in which only the "chosen ones" will live happily. I say this as a Russian, whose great-grandfather was sent to a concentration camp for criticizing the party, where he died.
