L is for LOCK-OFFS

DID YOU KNOW? When you’re installing a car seat with a seat belt, what actually holds the car seat in place is a tight lap (or lap portion of the) seat belt, locked at a fixed length. As long as that lap belt can’t get any longer, it’ll hold that car seat tight until you unbuckle it!

BUT THAT MEANS it’s GOT TO BE LOCKED. There’s many ways to do this, but one of the cool ways that some car seats do this is with a LOCK-OFF. Lock-offs are a built-in mechanism to hold the seat belt tight for you.

HOWEVER, BEWARE THE TENSIONER IN DISGUISE AS A LOCK-OFF! There’s also something called a belt tensioner (and sometimes they’re in a 💍very committed relationship💍 with a lock-off). But sometimes those belt tensioners LIE TO YOU and tell you they’re a LOCK, but they’re NOT. Before you swipe right on a tensioner we’re going to need you to look out for some major 🚩🚩🚩 Watch the video for all the details!
