Was the intake swap worth losing torque? The truck intake flows the same as the LS3 one and even compares to FAST intakes, just the car intake sacrifices torque for hp with short runners. VVT is difficult to tune so I understand the cam swap. Unless hood clearance is premium I personally would retain the truck intake and go 42 lb injectors or even use a e85 ones. 4L80e is king of the 4 speeds

I’m using the stock LS3 intake manifold with a upgraded Nick William’s 102mm throttle body and tapered adapter plate with 60LB Bosch fuel injectors . The engine is now a 416 stroker if you haven’t checked out my other videos. A stock LS3 intake flows exactly the same as the L92 intake manifold.. so there’s absolutely no power loss in comparison. Using a short runner intake is a bad idea.. first off there made of sheet metal or aluminum which gets really hot. you’re gonna lose 40-50 hp and torque under the curve all the way up too 6400 rpm because of the short runners. The LS3 FAST intake doesn’t make any more power then the stock LS3 intake unless you shorten the runner length, again your gonna loose down below 6000 rpm. short runner intakes make more power at 6500-7500 rpm where I’m never spinning the engine up too anyway. In my opinion the short runner intakes are good for drag racing when you’re spinning your engine up to 7-8000 rpm. The only intake that makes more power under the curve and above 6400rpm is the Edelbrock cross ram intake for the extra 20 hp it’s going to make doesn’t justify the $1200 price tag. Plus two throttle body’s and interference with accessory drive..

Hello! In our country, the most common classic v8 - Hemi 5.7 and L92 (Grand Gherokee and Cadillac Escalade). But there is no tuning industry for these engines and all the details have to wait a very long time from the USA. And we are forced to use more accessible parts for the upgrade. For example, for turbocharging hemi (reducing the compression ratio), factory turbo pistons from Subaru impreza 2.5 liters are perfectly suitable. Tell me what tricks for inexpensive tuning of d92 engines you know?

Hello.... if you’re able to advance the WOT timing, and bigger injectors.. 42LB to 60LB for a NA engine.. bigger injectors for boosting applications. Long Tube Headers will give you about 35- 50 HP increase on the L92 . I’m sure Holley Performance Parts would ship you a Terminator X fuel injection ECU system . Then you can tune out of your home garage. Cheers

Don’t forget to throw in a camshaft….. 220@50 intake and 230@50 exhaust 112-114 LSA … lift isn’t to important and is usually.500-.600 inch lift.
@vikenlink
@vikenlink 2 года назад
Unfortunately if you don’t have ECM reprogramming options…. There’s really only basic things you can do on a L92…. Cold air intake and long tube headers , 160 degree thermostat. The L92 came with VVT, again there’s VVT performance Cams that will easily get you in the 580 HP range, there’s non VVT cams that will work too and bring you well over 600HP . Sounds like your biggest hurdle is ECM Programming. My suggestion would be to get the HOLLEY Terminator X max system. Your programming problems will be gone and you can adjust everything easily on the 5 inch touchpad display. Get her running and screaming for more RPM.

@@vikenlink Thank you for the detailed answer. Most likely, we will use a custom ECU of our domestic manufacturer. It implements all the functions and we have experience in configuring it. The optimal camshaft for everyday use in your opinion for HEMI ezb 5.7 and L92?
@vikenlink
@vikenlink 2 года назад
In my opinion , as a daily driver, I wouldn’t go any bigger then 220 degrees duration @50 on the intake and stay below 234 degrees of duration @50 on the exhaust side. 112-116 degrees of lob separation angle . As for valve lift, stay under .600 intake/ exhaust . The more lift the more valve spring pressure. To much lift and the engine starts loosing power due to parasitic loss meaning you’re losing more power pushing the valve springs down further due to flow limitations.

I just bought the same motor and its going into a sand rail. When you replaced the cam, did you have to replace the lifters, springs or push rods? I have seen some kits that have those included.
@vikenlink
@vikenlink 4 года назад
Trey Miller Hi Trey Yes I had to replace my valve springs and push rods, I installed Brian Tooley springs .660 max lift and hardened 7.40 push rods. Didn’t need lifters . I also ended up putting a relocation kit on for the alternator... wasn’t able to close my hood.

What do you do about the 58tooth reluctor wheel on the crank vs the 28 in the 4th gen f body ls1 cars??

Old video… turned into a 416 ci . Intake was swapped for a LS3 intake and ICT Billet alternator power steering bracket. Oh this engine went into a second generation TransAm. I used the Holley Terminator x max fuel injection system. You have the choice of 24 or 58 tooth reluctor system. I went with a 58 tooth on the 4 inch Stroker crankshaft.

I think you are going to regret not just going with the 4l80e and those plug wires look like they are going to burn
@vikenlink
@vikenlink 4 года назад
I changed those plug wires a long time ago... .. I have a 4L70E transmission with a 3000 rpm stall converter. This video is old. I’ve been driving the Car this summer .... car ran excellent . However, I ended up seizing a piston due to low coolant and rad air flow issues. Now that those problems are solved, I’m in the middle of building a 416 LS out of it.

Roger yes.... I would do it again..... but I’d go with the BTR stage 2 N/A cam and a 3000 rpm stall

Richard from speed secrets tested the LS3 intake against the L92 truck intake.... they are identical back to back on the dyno. I had to go with the LS3 intake manifold due to hood clearance issues. Otherwise I would of saved the $$$ and stuck with the truck intake manifold .

The fitment issues could have been resolved by replacing the front end assembly with one from an LS3 right? Since they're essentially the same thing
@vikenlink
@vikenlink 4 года назад
Carlos Zavala yes the corvette LS3 drive assembly would of been ideal.... but finding a used assembly would be required. That’s just gonna cost More $$$ . I ended up with a ICT bullet alternator/ power steering bracket which did the trick.

Yes... if I got a LS3 assembly out of a Chevy Camaro or corvette.. it might fit. Keeping in mind the power steering pump and alternator are on the driver side. Some set ups have the alternator at the bottom and power steering pump at the top. I prefer The power steering pump down at the bottom. It’s much narrower from front to back compared to the alternator. Cheers

Hi... old video, the LS3 turned into a LS 416 stroker.. the injectors cost me about $260 US . The injectors work well, no issues. As I mentioned in the video I’m running the Terminator X Max .. I said terminator plus in the video. The Terminator makes tuning fairly easy.

are the balancer and pulley the same as ls3 or are they spaced further out from the block?
@vikenlink
@vikenlink 3 года назад
@@BluegrassBackroadBuilds I believe the L92 truck engine has the same spacing as the LS3. The reason I think that is I seen a LS3 water pump installed onto a L92. And the pulley lined up the same as the truck pump with the rest of the pulleys. I actually ordered a LS3 water pump .... still waiting on it. The reason I ordered a LS3 pump is the upper hose outlet is on the drivers side. My truck L92 pump comes out on the passenger side. Also the 2010 and up LS3 pump is a upgrade.. better flow rate for cooling.

@@BluegrassBackroadBuilds hey Dan, just got my LS3 water pump. The answer is no it won’t fit on a truck accessory drive belt system without water pump adapter spacing. Hope this helps. Cheers

@vikenlink
@vikenlink 4 года назад
kevin auman hi Kevin... depends on how radical you want to go... you’re driving a nice quiet smooth truck... if you want to keep it like that with a little more power... 65HP more....I’d leave the VVT and get a Brian Tooley VVT stage 1 cam with the spring kit and hardened pushrods . DOD delete kit..Cold air intake and a performance tune. Those aftermarket OBD2 plug in performance tuners work well. Now if you don’t mind more noise... swapping your stock exhaust manifolds with long tube headers bigger catalytic converter‘s lose your resonator put on a nice free flow muffler bigger cam BTR stage 2 VVT truck cam. You’re gonna get well over 520 HP from your stock 407 HP 😎

@@vikenlink well I've already put a MBRP installer series cat back exhaust on and also a K&N air filter in the stock airbox also using the Superchips flashpaq F5 tuner... She sounds amazing and turns the 33in tires I've got very nicely... i figured more air in, more air out and then adjust the tune to the best that programmer can allow without custom tuning on a dyno and i only ever run 93oct but im starting to really enjoy the way she throws you back in the seat and want more lol so im guessing the next step would be a cam probably?
