I love how you guys seem so practical when looking for an apartment. I’ve seen so many youtubers around your age (maybe even younger) who just moved to la and immediately went with luxury apartments/ exclusive and pricey locations
THE APARTMENTS LOOK AMAZING!!! you should look at the state of the apartment I'm currently living in hahaha. it's waaay too expensive to get a nice apartment in NYC
i've always wondered why LA apartment videos are so specific abt things but that actually makes so much sense! i live somewhere where "nice" looking apartments are an added bonus lol not just the norm so seeing people "picky" over finishes or windows used to confuse me so much lol
Many landlords in LA have a bad reputation of being slumlords. Many management companies hide behind various LLC's as well, even they they are the same company. Also always check reviews online for the apartment, or the company that manages it. If the property or management has no reviews, chances are they are sketchy slumlords. There are not as many tenant protection laws in LA compared to other big cities, which is kind of odd. I know curbed recently outted a bunch of slumlords in Los Angeles, but that list was oddly removed with no explanation, which is also shady. Also be on the lookout for landlords that are in too much of a hurry to rent the apartment out as well, or if the person showing the property does not give you the name of the management company that owns the property. Many scammers pose as fake agents/building managers to show the apartment and get you to apply, then you never hear from them again...because they used a random apartment they found and pretending THEY were managing it, and met with you to show it, took your application money but never had any intention on having you rent the property, because it was never their property to rent out.

2.8k for a 2 bedroom 😳 we're renting a 2 story 5 bed 3 bath condo for 2.8k it has a 2 car garage, nice wide drive way, huge bed rooms, the living room is kinda small but the kitchen is huge it has a lot of storage and counter space. The house is also modern styled but the only problem is the neighborhood 💀 we live in a pretty bad area here in LA... there's always people dying on our side of the street and there's people who try to steal our stuff lmao this one time someone stole our empty soda can bin so now we keep a new one inside. Another thing that isn't really to our liking is the front door, it only has 1 lock and the door is partially made of glass easy for break ins not to mention its the ONLY door that leads outside which isn't usually a big deal we've rented apartments before with only 1 exit but when we rent in not so safe areas we make sure to look for a place with 2 exits just in case. It's kinda scary at night when our motion sensors turn on and you just hear running or noises coming from outside. This house doesn't look like it belongs in the ghetto honestly 💀 it looks so out of place and although it's really nice for a cheap price in Los Angeles it's not worth almost getting caught in the cross fire of a gun fight or getting lung cancer due to second hand smoking [at night the area always reeks of weed and cigarettes. We have kids in the house with disabilities so this is also an issue for us] so as soon as our 1 year contract is over which will be soon we plan to move out immediately.

Highland Park is getting severely gentrified now! A lot of my family grew up in that area and what it is now compared to 20 years ago is insanely different.
brenda rubio as a mid city local I definitely feel this!! I was so triggered watching this. So sad to see how a RU-vidr who preaches about black lives and BIPOC lives in general is contributing to the increase gentrification of communities like Mid City. Displacing communities of color with newly build apartment buildings and contributing by taking advantage of “cheap” rent is so triggering.
Ariana Hernandez The one we chose isn’t directly in Mid City that’s why I said “greater mid city” to be a bit more vague for our safetys-sake. I agree with you.
lindseyrem please be mindful when you’re talking about historically low income neighborhoods like mid city, west adams and k town. These neighborhoods are quickly changing and making it more difficult for those who are actually from these communities to afford rent. What an “up and coming neighborhood” is to you and extremely frightening to those who have lived there for years. Check your privilege when you’re glorifying these communities for their cheap rent because the truth is they are eager to replace people like me for people like you.

I’m lowkey sad you guys didn’t want to live in Koreatown 😭 I’ve lived in ktown for years and it’s my most favorite neighborhood in LA. It’s extremely safe and family friendly. Which for some people I can see why they wouldn’t want that, but personally I found that it feels more comfortable being around families and schools. It’s also super central and affordable!
