What I don't get is why you'd buy a home with such a history with the intent of knocking it down, knowing the fight you'd get from the community. Dumb!

I would definitely turn it into a historic site and also a museum and possibly wax statues with TVs in the house playing as you do the museum tour you can see Marilyn putting on her make up in one room and another wax figurine, making breakfast and each room could have recordings of her interviews so you could hear her voice and music that she sings. I would definitely make this a wonderful museum could bring a lot of money for the city.🥰

@@ytzpilot Uhm....no. They bought a piece of property that an actress lived in for two years and now it's theirs to do with it what they like. I'm not even sure where the history is here. What took place in this home other than an actress slept there at night and maybe entertained? That's not history. That's not even culture. Her movies have cultural significance, not the front door. If using these very low standards for a special designation, can you imagine how many homes in Los Angeles would have restrictions? The current owner bought a property with no restrictions, they should be able to do what they wish. If the city wanted to give it some kind of ridiculous designation, that should only apply to any sales going forward and clearly disclosed in advance. If this property truly has historical/cultural value, the city should have taken care of that PRIOR to selling to a new owner.
@@alison961 buildings get historical designations all the time, the owners have no control over that, in this case the owners being an LLC so a no liability company, which would be the reason for an LLC to purchase that property they recognised the risks and have no liability to protect the investors from the outcome

What are your criteria? What if a home belonged to an actor who lived in it for one year? Does that count? What a about a month? Is 2 days enough? What makes this actress' home more historical than homes of other actors? Actors are simply human beings. There are people in this city who have made a far greater contribution to humankind, yet I doubt highly that anyone will be dressing up at city council meetings like any of those folks and demanding their homes be protected.
@@alison961 the historical designation has nothing to do with Marilyn Monroe or anyone else that lived in it, the historical designation is because the house was built in 1929, therefore almost 100 years old. Rule of thumb, if you buy a house from the 1980s to tear down and rebuild don’t worry about it, if you buy a house from the 1920s to tear down and rebuild don’t be surprised if you are told you can’t, and that would have nothing to do with who lived in it. Tear down permits get reversed all the time for anything that age.
