Madeline has to be one of the most fascinating yet ignored/underrated characters of all time. I wanted more of her backstory & I enjoyed the relationship between Nikita & her in the beginning. They both saved each other's lives.
most brilliant and badass character on one of most amazing and underrated shows ever. went out like a boss she was. Alberta Watson was perfect in this role
Alberta Watson played Madeline so well. I was saddened to hear she had died n 15. The funny thing is the relationship between Madeline and Paul is a perfect mirror to that between Nikita and Michael.
Fun factoid and little noticed, the episode titles contained the same number of words as the series number. So in series 1 all episodes had a one word title, in s2 a two word title and so on. Another is that the relationship between Michael and Nikita was a mirror of that between Paul and Madeline. Another is that in the entire series no paper was used in Section 1. It was either on plastic, pilot episodes, or on screen, holo or tablet (before we had tablets). Basically totally electronic.
Honestly that just felt like Madeline trying to cope with the tables being turned on her. Because Nikita was just as badass as Madeline. Even more so considering Nikita had them fooled for years.
That was the intent. However the Nikita series was a disappointment. I was looking forward to seeing it revived, and as good as the actors were, sadly they were let down by the studio and it's writers. Not all reboots are bad but the actors are not at fault if they are.
Fun factoid and little noticed, the episode titles contained the same number of words as the series number. The funny thing is that the Madeline/Paul relationship was the same as the Nikita/Michael relationship.
Well........I'll probably get hung out to dry for saying so, but.....I really despised Madeline and Operations. They were always spinning their nasty little webs and keeping Michael and Nikita apart. But their characters were pivotal for the series, and Alberta and Eugene played them with great panache and distinction. And Alberta while being treated for cancer also. And I agree, Nikita's character was really not the same after she betrayed everyone, it was hard to watch.
the only believable, consistent element of the writing and performance of this scene is madeline; her death coincides with the death of quality for the series.
Season 4 was absolute rubbish. Madeline was the best thing this show had. Don't get me wrong, I am a massive fan, avid fan of LFN, all the more reason why I believe that the writers could have done better here. They had room to manoeuvre.
I wouldn't say absolute rubbish, but it did have more than its share of episodes that I prefer to skip over when watching the DVD's. Season 5 was absolute rubbish. If their goal was to tie up loose ends before ending the series, they ended up with more loose ends and unanswered questions than if they had just ended it with season 4.
I hate how this show turned peta Wilson's ego and demeanor got so bad! She was thought to be the best candidate for the female terminator, but they canned her during this season of LFN, no idea what happened!
I agree with Frazzlewomen concerning Madeleine and Operations. I still don't understand why the writers thought it was cool to turn everything upside down with the character Nikita towards the ending of the show. Or wait, I do know, they did it for the purpose of shocking us, but that's just darn mean! I ignore that this episode ever existed.
"I am not familiar with the date...." Madeline lying there is nothing she forgets about section, operations or the operatives. Proven by her later statement of it being two operatives both level 1. After all if you do not recall the incident how would you remember that. Though given that the relationship between Nikita and Mike is the morror of Paul and Madelines relationship it did surprise me Nikita would go down that route. But as this final series was never meant to have been created I blame the writers not the actors.
I was glad when madeline was gone bc i couldn't stand her character! Didn't last long.. a hologram was the same & .just as bad..ugh Now Michael i Miss♡
Madeline was so amazing!!!!, she was the best of lfn..., i almost cry when they killed her like this, after all the things she did for section, they just killed her like that... Thanks. "You two don´t complement each other"*** XD yeah right... xd
After all things she did murdering people you mean LOL. In real life she would be declared criminal of war. In a fiction the "bads" are essential but in real life they are much better in a grave. She was a sadistic and sociopath . She enjoyed killing and make people suffering. She deserved much worse.
@@hectorfleed7 If that were true, she never would've felt guilty all those years over her sister & hurt by her mother never looking at her the same. I really think Madeline is someone who feels too much instead of not enough. You have to remember that she's been there since the beginning... that's a lot of reprograming & brainwashing by section. I think by the time we meet her, she's pretty much a pro at turning her feelings on/off, compartmentalizing, & focusing on the job. Who knows how old she was when they brought her in. I do, however, think the Madeline here is not the Madeline from the first few seasons. They definitely made her character more emotionless & like a robot. I never understood why. I found her extremely fascinating & the episode where she visits Nikita is so intriguing. I think she's someone who's been with toxic people her entire life & it's all she really knows. She did say that she envied Nikita as well.
This was sadly the worst series of the franchise and that is because the studio did not want to make it, they cancelled it in season 4. This season was only made due to a fan campaign to save it and that is why it is not as good as all the other seasons, despite the work put into it by the actors and crew, the story lines were rather weak and so let it down. THey could have used this final season as a way to go out on a bang but the studio decided to make it a whimper. .
WHAT?! No! What is this?! I started watching the first season again, forget about the other ones, forgot about this, poor Madeline! I liked her. What's going on??
I think they killed her character off to allow her to get time away from the set. She was undergoing a cancer treatment battle in her real life off-screen. Unfortunately, she did not win. She will be missed.
