We go fishing in deep water for yellowtail in the late fall/early winter. On my Hobie Pro Angler 14 kayak, I use dropper loops and carolina rig to target these cold water yellowtail.

Chris great video! Don't even bother with 4k. Most people watch on their phones or their computers and don't have a 4k resolution screen so they won't even know the difference. Save yourself the hassle and just shoot 1080 (2.7k if you want to have some room to zoom in and still have some decent resolution).
@SDKook
@SDKook 2 года назад
Zoom is the only reason I'd bump up, otherwise not worth it.
@chrisblevinsfishing
@chrisblevinsfishing 2 года назад
So if I import media in 4K and work the effects for the zoom, and then render in 1080... the zoom will still look clean right? EDIT: I'm using Davinci Resolve 17

@@chrisblevinsfishing so essentially if you shoot in 4k or 2.7k, you’d ideally want to create your timeline based on a 1080 video. Then, you go ahead and scale the video to fit a 1080 frame. Which essentially will look very good because you’re keeping all those pixels into a 1080 frame size. Then say you have a clip of some YT busting and you want to zoom in on it, you’ll still retain all that information and it will look sharp still and not pixelated. I haven’t used davinci but i use premiere and i know both programs make it very easy to do. There’s plenty of quick tutorials explaining it better than i am now 😂

Wish those conditions would have stuck around. It was brutal this past weekend. You’re always a wealth of information with these videos. Really appreciate it Chris. Oh, and for what it’s worth, I think the algorithm supports 4k over 1080 if you’re looking to grow the channel. They tend to come up first in general searches for new viewers looking for related content. Subscribers will always have access to whatever you post. 🤙

Hey Chris I'm 100% with you how much harder it is to deal with larger file size and slower processing. I shoot at 2.7k and covert to 1080P during the saving of the edited video. I mostly watch on my computer and depending on data speed I'll watch in 1080P or 720P is the lowest I will watch it. If it's going to be lower resolution it's not worth my time. We must have been there about a day apart. Thanks for sharing. Tight Lines!

Thanks for the video. I appreciate anything you post that’s more along the lines of being educational. I watch RU-vid exclusively on my iPhone so 4k is lost on me. Even on the rare occasion I might watch on my TV, I don’t have a 4k screen, so any richer upload is again lost on me. I’d love to have you walk us through your thinking and logic when you determine whether you’re going to fish a Carolina vs. dropper vs. other rigs. Why and when would you use one vs the others? Keep up the great content. Thanks.

Dude, I can't even count how many times I paused the video to jot down notes. As a complete noob fisherman who has yet to even throw my first ever cast (still slowly gearing up on a tight budget), I feel like by the time I finally get out there, I'll be way more knowledgeable than most beginners largely thanks to you and your channel. Thank you! I was hoping you could give me your thoughts on the gear I've picked up so far? 13' Prowler, 7' MH GX2 Ugly Stik rod, Daiwa BG5000 reel, 40lb braid, 30lb fluoro for topshot&leader. This is my first kayak, rod, reel, lines, everything. I'm kind of worried the lines are too light for my target species (yellowtail, halibut, and rockfish). I would have gone with 50lb braid and 40lb fluoro but I got the lines during a sale/promotion and those higher lb lines were out of stock so i grabbed what I could. What do you think? Do I need to replace/upgrade any of that gear? Also, I watch your vids on my cheap laptop that defaults to 720P lol so I can't really weigh in on the question about higher quality. Your footage looks good even in 720 tho haha. Hope to hear back from you. I would really appreciate it!
@chrisblevinsfishing
@chrisblevinsfishing 2 года назад
Hi Max! Thanks for watching! Ya you are on the right track dude, you could totally do well with that setup you have going so far. I would recommend try a trip or 2 to the bay first to get used to your kayak and casting on it. Then after you have a little experience the next step would be to set up a some sort of bait tank... even a small bucket would do. But you could totally go out to fish LJ without live bait and just focus on lures. I would recommend any heavy metal jigs such as colt snipers, butterfly jigs, mega baits, irons.... whatever you want to try. Swimbaits also will do well in the kelp for the calicos. Please keep us updated on your progress! Cheers

i Do watch youtube on my TV a lot, so 4k is nice. My computer monitor is 1440, so maybe that's a happy medium? If gear is a limiting factor, maybe consider a virtual tip jar. A lot of these fishing tips are super valuable to people, and im sure some fans would be down to give some small donations if it's going directly into production.
@chrisblevinsfishing
@chrisblevinsfishing 2 года назад
Hey Zeb that is a good idea thank you. I kinda feel bad asking people for donations, especially since my videos are monetized and you have to watch ads on them. If I take that logic out far enough.... do you all want to support me? I will quit my job and PUMP out videos, and maybe start guiding too! hahaha maybe one day. Cheers bro.

I really like to hunt the Hali's and bounce the 3 ways off my pro angler (broke down and bought a BIXPY motor) LOL. General halibut question for you: Do you find that they stay deep in the winter months and go more shallow in the spring/summer? Or just hang by structure?

In what circumstances would you use the dropper loop rig over the Carolina rig, and vice versa? Regarding video rendering, it makes a difference to me when watching it on tv, but yeah I hate the longer wait for it to render. Also sucks when you 4K it but it loses quality for some reason when uploaded to RU-vid. Btw, stoked you’re making videos again!

I've thought about bumping my resolution up too but it's so taxing on the processing for very minimal gain. Everyone watches on phone where the pixels are packed in anyways it isn't even noticeable until you watch on TV. I'm a TV watcher so I notice, but as a creator I don't think it's worth the jump yet to anything higher than 1080p
