Did you know that the plot of La La Land has strong ties to Emma Stone's real-life history? The movie is based in LA, and Mia is discovered as a college dropout actress pursuing her dreams. Stone is a school dropout herself, moving to LA at the age of 15 in pursuit of an acting career.

Ryan Gosling is so very good at those little improvisations scenes where he can be eccentric or loud which really brings a cool energy to his movies. He's such a talented dude.

Ryan is talented with natural improv skills and Emma is talented with going along with it and making it seem believable.

Emma is talented for reacting that way when he improvised. If that was me and someone suddenly shouted "WHAT" at me when I thought they were supposed to say "Excuse me?" I would probably have screamed, cried and then started laughing.

This is what's amazing about watching these types of 'script to screen' comparisons; you see how the actors take what's on the page that's already great, and amp it up to a whole other level. THAT'S what makes Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone so talented in this scene in particular. They didn't even make up new dialogue that was more grandiose or eloquent, they just made the scene feel more REAL. And that's all they needed to do to make the scene that much better. The dialogue goes from being a scripted conversation to a realistic conversation, complete with interruptions, tripping over words, and natural reactions. They got the gist of the scene. Ryan Gosling spices up the dialogue with his improvisation skills, and Emma Stone reacts naturally to him with her acting focus skills, and even improvises a bit herself. Simple, pure beauty in this scene.

It's crazy to see how differently the coffee-driving-away scene was written, but I think the brevity of the final scene is what made it so memorable for me lol!

Would have been a better movie if they casted a working actor rather than a star, would have matched the movie.

I think the director decided to choose Emma and Ryan because he really liked the idea of having a famous duo. He was really inspired by the Golden Age of Hollywood for this film and very often, you would find many ‘film couples’ (couples that have starred in opposing roles in multiple films) and so by casting Emma and Ryan, the director could pay tribute to that idea (as this was their 3rd film together).

Also for many parts of the film, it had been based off of Ryan and Emma’s own personal experience when they used to be turned down for roles so I guess hiring a ‘working actor’ wouldn’t work since they would have so little experience.
