And this woman thinks she deserves to have a city park named after her! She was brought QX to town, has sued city, slandered people in the paper, falsely accused people of things they did not do, and was recalled from office. She did and has done nothing for the city. And she thinks so highly of herself, she starts a petition to get a park with her name on it. How pitiful can one get?
I guess the citizens showed her they are the ones that can pick and choose who is mayor. People need to be reminded of this when election time comes around.
Wah wah wah! The mayor sounds like the adults from Charlie Brown. She is throwing a tantrum because she is not getting what she wants on the agenda. Hopefully she was fired and thrown out.
I shouldn't laugh at the mayor, but I can't help myself. She was funny. She was also a huge embarrassment to the rest of the city council, when she behaved like a sullen child in front of the assembled citizens.

I don't get it. If she isn't going to call the meeting to order, why is she blabbering on and on? Just tell people to go home and stop wasting their time.
@Stone Garden...it is apparent you are not from La Marque. You have no knowledge of what actually took place and why. And, no where in the city charter does it say the mayor is elected from the members of council. The mayor is elected by the people. Perhaps you meant to say the mayor pro-tem? Have a great day. :)
Whether or not there is a quorum, the presiding officer can adjourn the meeting to a later date. She should have opened the meeting and immediately adjourned it. A postponement is moving the meeting to a different date and a quorum can override that. This is what she attempted to do. Adjourning a scheduled meeting is absolutely within the presiding officers authority, especially if there are deficiencies like an incomplete agenda. The meeting is opened, the roll is called and the meeting "adjourned to a later time".
This is incorrect. You're making a blanket statement that has no basis in fact. Not all bodies operate under the same parliamentary procedures. Most operate under Robert's Rules which requires a vote for adjournment. Unless the city charter says otherwise, she doesn't have this authority.
kontor5672 La Marque doesn't operate under Roberts rules and I should have said "recess" rather than "adjournment." Also Chairpersons (in this case the Mayor) usually have control over the Agenda items, but the La Marque charter is very nebulous about the mayors power and instead says "The city council shall determine its own rules in order of business." My point remains: The presiding officer absolutely has discretion in deciding what is on the agenda. Her mistake was in refusing to call the meeting to order which is obstructionist and absolutely wrong. She COULD have refused to call the meeting to order pending a "repaired agenda". But the city Charter also says that the Mayor is elected from among the Council members, so if they didn't like it, they could have voted in a new member as mayor from among the council members. The real issue here is that the Presiding officer's items didn't make to the agenda. THAT is a real issue, and no one has the authority to decide for the presiding officer that her items are not worth deliberating.
