I bet part of the problem is the optimization for the Cell. The cell CPU is designed in such a way that anything you optimize for it runs like crap on regular CPUs and vice versa. The PS4 and Xbone CPUs are at least powerful enough to plow thru the game at 30, but the switch just didn't had that luck.

agreed. finished it on the switch last year, already post-patch, and it was really one of the most entertaining experiences i've ever had on the nintendo console (played it in handheld-mode only). framerate was mostly good; the only times it was really hard was car chases while it rained.

Even people who own other systems will double dip just to play it portably. If people can buy Skyrim again for the billionth time, they for sure will get GTA 5 again on the Switch.

It will make so much sense to port GTA V on the Switch. It's very possible and all they need to do is use the last gen version with textures of the current and make the game run at 1080p 30fps.

The Switch can run GTA V. La Noire performed not so great on the Switch because it was developed for the PS3 in mind. GTA V is a multi platform game and it was on the PS3 and Xbox 360. It wouldn't be hard to get it to run on the Switch HECK, it probably could of ran on the Wii U.

Did you miss the part where the When you build a game around a specific set of hardware, simply dropping it on different hardware, even if it is a bit more powerful, doesn't mean you automatically get better results. If the game had been built on the more similar chipset of the 360, it would have performed better on Switch than what we have now. The PS3 was such a radically different setup, that it caused all kinds of interesting issues. Bayonetta is a good example. Built on the 360, but when ported to the more powerful PS3, it suffered horribly with frame rate issues. It's the same concept here. Even considering that, PS3 built games ported to Switch do better than 360 games that were ported to the PS3 in many instances. 🤷🏻‍♂️ Maybe the developers could have squeezed more out, but I blame the PS3 architecture here.

Learn a little bit about how technology works and you'll see why the Switch is impressive. They're comparing it to the PS3 because that's what this game was built on genius. My gosh, it's like this is the first DF video on the Switch you idiots are watching.

But looking at it today, it starts to reveal its shortcomings. In 5 years this game will look like a mess to most people. Zelda on the other hand has a very timeless style to it. You could compare it to Wind Waker, which came out like 2003 and still holds up today.

I'm not sure about that, this game seems to use a lot of CPU resources. The Switch have a high GPU power processing than the WiiU, but on the CPU side, is hard to tell.

Since Wii U easily beats PS3 and 360 in terms of power, L.A. Noire could have been ported to Wii U without limitations.

The Wii U features a better graphics processor (about 50% better than the 360's), but the Espresso CPU itself is a mixed bag with about similar general if not better non-SIMD performance. However, SIMD performance for vector and floating operations is only about *20%* of the Xbox 360's Xenos CPU. Games last gen were really designed around the 360 and PS3's exceptional SIMD capabilities, hence porting those games to the Wii U always resulted in less than stellar performance, despite the Espresso's architectural advantages like larger CPU caches, out of order processing, and an extremely short pipeline (4 for most tasks, only 7 for FPU ops). The Wii U even has a dedicated audio processor to further take the burden off of the CPU (as the 360 and PS3 processed their audio on their CPUs). When taken in context of these things, it makes sense why many developers snubbed the system.

The faces don't even look that good. Everyone's eyes are completely flat and hazy, if their eyes are even picked up. Some characters squint in a weird way that makes it look like they don't have eyes.

True, face textures are pretty bad, sometimes they just don't align with the movements, but the facial animations are still stellar even for 2017.

The point I'm making is that no laptop could ever be as small or convienient as a switch, so it's not gonna be the best option for everyone. Glad that setup works fine with you, but you can't say the switch version isn't good despite how many people, myself included, enjoy it

External GPU on a laptop usually perform much worse than a normal one, due the connection bottleneck. An GTX 1080 give you the performance of a GTX 1060, so, not worth.

even with that being the case, I'm sure it can still help with performance. though, knowing nintendo, setting that up can be very tedious for your average user so it'll probably be avoided

Breath of the wild was built for the Wii U that was weaker in terms of cpu power then the Xbox 360 and ps3. More cpu power means more going on in the background, Breath of the Wild looks better and has a lot of environmental stuff going on but it was still held back by the Wii U cpu. LA noire is more demanding in terms of cpu usage while breath of wild pushed more gpu and ram power.

Something like that - It seems MS have either paid them or gave them all free X's with the condition they try and make the X seem the best thing out there atm - basically their version of marketing. Fair enough, it's the most powerful hardware, but when the X and Pro are identical in textures, framerates and resolution - it's kinda obvious when they are being biased and most likely paid to say certain things

Yet they left it out of this video and focused on the switch and base PS4 so they can't say both machines are native 4k. Xbox has paid or gave them free machines to purposely leave out the pro so it sounds like only the X is 4k

PhantomTech Rocket League and Skyrim are great ports. Even L.A. Noire is great. Most of the gameplay isn't out in the open world but inside interrogating people, which the Switch version handles as well as any other version.

Alexander Chilton Slow downs on LA Noire happen a lot. It’s really noticeable even when simply walking out to your car to get to the next destination. Even during crime scenes out in the open. I’d have to completely disagree on Rocket League being a good port. It is blurry as HELL on my TV and even in handheld. It even struggles holding 60fps on the TV. Hell even navigating menus causes stutter. If the ball is down the field and I’m having trouble actually seeing it, there’s a problem. Sometimes I think I’m playing a different game, cause I don’t get how ANYONE thinks that’s passable. As for Skyrim, I don’t have it so I can’t really say.

Fair enough, haven't played LA Noire yet but has mostly heard good things. As far as Rocket League, sure the resolution is shit but it runs very well and plays like it should. Haven't really experienced any gameruining FPS drops, and I agree the game is more blurry than other versions, but I haven't had problems seeing the ball (and I play mostly hand held). Unironically, maybe get your eyes checked (I got glasses two years ago and it has helped a lot, lol). I haven't played it much docked, so I can't argue that it would look blurry on it (but then again, if you are playing docked might as well play it on a PS4 or PC with better graphics). As far as ports go Skyrim to me is the best optimized one yet. Basically looks almost as good as the remastered version, runs at the same frame rate with very few drops, but it is also portable. Bethesda has also had a lot of experience with porting Skyrim to everything so that is expected.

PhantomTech might need a new tv . Handheld mode doesn't look great, but looks fine on my tv. Also the framerate seems to hold well for the most part. Also doom actually is a solid port.

Doom was an OK port, rocket league was a bad port (For the handheld mode where it looks shit and drops frames every time the camera swivels), L.A. Noire looks like a slightly better port but nothing can beat breath of the wild post patch from a technical stand point.
