Max only made up ridiculous things about the secret to people who he judged were just looking for crazy prophecy stuff as a way to mock them. It was probably not a good idea, but that is the case. With those who genuinely asked about the secret or about the apparition he would be very serious with. It is interesting. Although his life seemed unstable afterwards, it was likewise unstable beforehand. However, his prayer life and devotion did increase after the apparition and he remained faithful to that until death. I sympathize deeply with his life, because I am someone who has had trouble finding my place in society. Thank God for the Catholic faith, the one thing that helped him and me to keep a foundation.

Maximim and Melanie were seers that did not become Saints, making it fairly unique. Their lives represent the modern world. Poor Maximim spent a lifetime wondering, not really knowing where he fit into this changing and unsettling world. Melanie became disilusioned and disoriented. This represents our modern times perfectly. Maximim defended the apparition at his very last breath and even had his heart buried there.

@@Scott-ze5fb Absolutely. I privately invoke Maximin all the time as someone I believe to be in Heaven, especially because I relate to much of his life. But there has never been a cause raised for their canonization. Who knows though, maybe it will happen in the future.

Or just didn't attain the title of Saint with a capital S yet. Some people weren't beatified and then declared a Saint, until hundreds of years later. Saint with a capital S is a title, saint (lowercase) are those in heaven enjoying the beatific vision

@@FatalLayersOfficial I agree with your assessment. Personally, I invoke these little saints privately which we are allowed to do as Catholics. I am confident that they are in Heaven. But it cannot be denied that many seers become canonized. It could happen 100s of years later for sure, but at the moment there seems to be no cause for it. If it does happen then they could be publicly venerated. God bless.

Interesting episode. I didn't know much about La Salette before. It does seem to be a good example of the need for prudence regarding purported apparitions and the value of distinguishing between public and private revelation. Gotta say that my favorite Marian apparition is still Guadalupe. Any chance you'll be doing something on Juan Diego's tilma at any point? At any rate, I'm looking forward to the Fatima follow-up next month, and also sort of hoping there's going to be some appropriately spooky episodes for October. :)

Why is it that with most of the approved apparitions of Mary, such as with Guadalupe, Fatima, Lourdes, Akita, and Kibeho, the apparition is first relayed as asked, either misunderstood or dismissed entirely, but then Mary comes again to clarify or help the seer convince others of the truthfulness of the account? The poor shepherd children of Fatima were not well educated and were so young, yet they were able to convey the messages fully (they even thought Russia was the name of some woman in trouble because they did not know the country). I think the theory of the crazy woman dressing up and talking to the children seems far more likely. We need to be vigilant and not credulous of every single claim put before us.

Was hoping to hear more about Leon Bloy. Actually love his book on the apparition, She Who Weeps, but did notice they did not sell it in the book store when I went La Salette two years ago.

I have to correct you, Patois is another name for local languages in France. The problem is, is a lot of countries don't distinguish between dialect and language. Occitan is not that close to French (it is not dissimilar, they are both Romance languages, and both have a lot of things in common, but they're not mutually intelligible) , and that's probably the language, it is closer to Catalan. Patois can refer to dialect, but usually doesn't. I have to say though, actually having studied French, I always thought Earth Apple was really funny, but I talked to a Dutch speaker and apparently it's the same in Dutch, not the same word but same translation.

@Jonathan Soko That is sad, here in the US states can pick their own official languages and a couple of states that protect minority languages don't actually have those minority languages as official languages. Louisiana is working very hard to protect the French language, even though French is not actually official there, and New Mexico does the same thing with Spanish even though Spanish is not actually official in New Mexico. And I'll tell you what in spite of that, they both do a much better job of protecting French and Spanish, than Hawaii does of Hawaiian, in spite of Hawaiian actually being an official language in Hawaii. The United States has a heavily decentralised government when it comes to things like that, things like that should be hands-off from the federal government. I understand the logic of France having a unifying national language , but you're right the way it treats minority languages is not great. Really though, would it hurt France to treat minority languages better? Look at Switzerland it has four national languages, plus numerous smaller languages some of which are from immigrants but others have been spoken there for centuries, like Arpitan, and whilst some of Switzerland's minority languages are in a precarious position , the fact that it has the three main languages plus one other national language, doesn't seem to be boding too badly for it.

I love in you Mr. James the unbiased analysis you do as the evidence shows , that is really an honest gentle approach with viewers , i had a question did catholics in the 19th century had only Sunday mass and not other days ?

Thank you for your kind words! Priests in the 19th century commonly said Mass every day, and though many of these were private, the faithful did have access to daily Mass in most churches, as far as I'm aware.

@@christfollower5713 As far as I am aware, the idea of a private revelation "secret" first came to prominence with La Salette. However, I strongly suspect that similar things happened in the previous centuries but that they are not as famous today.

@@JimmyAkin yes me too i do think Mary gives info to some not to be revealed from before even La Salette , thank u so much❤❤ I have a last question am sorry, i saw many videos about hindus and buddhist monks , like supernatural things accompany them like one hindu guy named Jani (he died recently) didn't eat or drink for 80 years and doctors observed him in the hospital and he says goddess (cant remember who) supplies him , another thing once happened is statue of Ganesh and others drank milk from the spoon and milk disappears supernaturally in the hindu temples , so claim from atheists , why not your miracle be demonic and theirs be the right one and from the right gods? i tried to think how to tackle this issue , i think we know this by the teachings not just miracles? and their worldview doesnt say supernaturals comes from either power of God or demons (maybe i ddint study Asian religions) , whats your thought on this 🙏🏻🙏🏻

However, (1) all these claims must be tested, and the evidence for those in other religions is often lacking, and (2) the miraculous evidence for Christianity is very strong--particularly the Resurrection of Christ, which withstands examination from other viewpoints. The evidence for the Resurrection of Jesus is *extremely* good, and it is a major miracle.

I believe this happened.....without a doubt! but sadly teh evil works of the devil were upon these 2 children after the Apparition, just like OUR LORD YESHUA, each one of us, we all have demons that we must fight ...... for we are in a spiritual battle all of our lives.... and sometimes we go astray💔💔, just like Melanie! I pray that they are now with our LORD CHRIST..... ❤❤❤

Perhaps since the Vusion specifically pointed negatively to many of then current and to come Church leaders 'Leading people down the road to Perdition.' I understand Pope John Paul 2 and Padre Pio, went and saw those children immediately in the early 1960's.They both stated to listen to the warnings, as they were real!)( However, despite their power, popularity, they were overuled by the 'guilty'!!!)( GOD does not need ANY Churches approval or any in depth Researchers opinions.)( GOD warns,and never lies.)

It has not been pushed aside. Garbandal had been investigated and was found to be false. Edit: I misremembered. It is true that it had not been pushed aside. But the investigation determined that there is no proven supernatural element to the alleged apparition. So it was not proven false outright, neither was it proven true. But I personally think there is much recent findings to give evidence to its falsehood.

@@khappy1286 They were found after investigation to have no provable supernatural origin. The Church itself has discouraged the faithful from taking part in devotions related to it. I suppose we can say that it has not been 100% declared false. But the implication seems to be that it is false. With true apparitions, Heaven tends to provide proof when investigated to support the truth of it. And considering that the guy who was supposed to be healed from his blindness has died (based on an apparent prophecy), it seems an open and shut case to me. There are in addition others who have investigated this issue and found it to be false.

@@keithmayhewhammond5357 actually it hasn't, they say the investigation can't be completed until after the seer announces the warning, she is to announce a few days before it is to happen. Then it can be completed and ruled as true or false. Also as in all personal revelations, we are not obliged to believe.

A very interesting diagnosis of the accurate discovered secrets takes a less literal approach. It finds that De Gaulle was the “great monarch of France” who instituted a time of prosperity and religiosity in France. Also the great power to the north was often said to be England by Maximin later in life… the reading of his original secret comports with the notion that a great flowering of Catholic theological thought (Newman etc) sprung up in Victorian England and spread through the British Empire. Indeed the modern Anglo-Catholic movement began with the Oxford Movement in the Victorian era, sometimes termed "Tractarianism" that led to Anglican’s stating that they were NOT Protestant but English Catholics. As such Roman Catholicism ceased to be persecuted in British law and Catholic monasteries and churches reopened. This wave of Anglo Catholic thought and acceptance may have paved America’s shift in anti Catholic bias as well and helped lead to two Catholic presidents …

I have a question: What would you say to the people that claim Marian apparitions are Satanic and the like? I'm Catholic, so obviously I don't believe that, even though I do believe some of the purported apparitions are false, like Bayside. (By the way, sometimes I comment before I've listened to the whole thing, so you may very well have answered it already)

@@olasek7972 Some of the more traditionalist people will say that, not all of them, most think that they're actually very beautiful things, although some will go to The Other Extreme and say that you have to do what the apparitions say, and treat them like public revelation. But also, I've noticed that Orthodox have started saying that, not the majority, but more than I'm comfortable with.

If they are approved by the local bishop then they should be ok. For instance, the Apparition in Champion Wisc. was eventually approved by the local bishop, the only one in the United States by the way. The so called apparitions in Necedah Wisc. were not approved by the local bishop at that time, nor did the seceeding bishop approve it either and therefore Catholics should not go there or believe the messages.

Why does the appirtion teach that the Virgin Mary is *stopping* the Lord Jesus from bringing judgment on those villagers? 3. Is that what the New Testament teaches about the Lord Jesus?

Over and over the derogatory comments made that these two Visionaries of La Salette did NOT succeed on living 'stable' lives.Yet by 'whose' definition? The Worlds'? Then the Worlds' must also include in this definition Jesus and HIS Disciples, and zillons of others! In fact both these Visionaries led varied and vast lives for the time they were on Earth and did their utmost to help others along the way. Also since the boy Visionary of LaSalett's father having died within just three years after the Vision! How then is his story being told again in a derogatory comment that this father had sanctioned him with something like attention deficit disorder is rediculous! (No wonder GOD often reveals HIS messages to unjudgemental children!!!)

I agree with wildflowers, there's incidents that happened not under Melanie's control as far as the different orders she was in, and from what I understand, her life before the apparition was one of terrible abuse by another person. More research is needed here in my humble opinion.

Excellent episode. From what I have discerned about the Constance La Merlie case, it appears that she was very short and quite matronly looking, not at all as beautiful and lithe as the children described the woman. Secondly, how would the children remember what she said without having written the secrets down at the time she gave them… these are uneducated kids. Either the message was seriously jumbled or it was given supernaturally to them. It is said by the local priest that they never altered in the telling of the Message for the first weeks. Additionally it was reported that a taxi cab driver was brought to the trial who stated that he drove LebMerlie to the mountain that day. It was later show he had not started working as a cabby until much later. It appears shenanigans were at work on the anti-la Salette Republican side of things. Btw Charles Dickens wrote a piece in the English papers deriding the case and pointing out the La Merlie angle. Interestingly he later said he prayed on it (feeling unsure of his anti-Marianism) and saw the Virgin Mary tell him that Mary Was Enough For Him. He never critiqued Marianism again,

Well "ette" is a diminutive form, and "sale" means dirty, so "the little dirty"? I think it is possible that it kind of evolved into that name, and it might actually meant salty, salty in French is "Salé". Or it could be a transliteration of the local Occitan name, which I don't know

For me brothers the apparition was real but somehow the seers succumbed to their weaknesses unlike Lourdes' Bernadette and the Fatima kids. We had one in the Philippines at Agoo, La Union circa 1994, but that was a tragedy and a complete hoax, I drove for the Jesuit (3 Jesuit priests) investigators who openly discussed it in the van I was driving. Hahaha

The La Salette visions are in line with a tradition of Catholic End Times prophecy known as The Great Monarch. In that sense, these prophecies are dead-on and fit perfectly.

How can a simple village girl of 15, like Melanie, make up what she said Our Lady told her about the clergy - eg: 'The priests, ministers of my Son, the priests, by their bad life, by their irreverences and their impiety in celebrating the holy mysteries, by love of money, love of honour and of pleasures, the priests have become cesspools of impurity'. Turned out she was spot on and it's only gotten worse. I should think Melanie was terrified at having to repeat this as well as the fact that "Rome will lose the faith and become the seat of the Antichrist".
