La Spezia (Ligurian: A Spèza, in the local Spezzino dialect) is the capital and port city of the province of La Spezia, located at the mouth of the Gulf of La Spezia in Italy's Liguria region. The city's naval legacy is reflected in the 1800s maritime arsenal and the Technical Naval Museum, which has ship models and navigational gear.
After Genoa, La Spezia is the second-largest city in the Liguria region. It is one of the largest Italian military and commercial harbours, as well as a significant Italian Navy base, located about halfway between Genoa and Pisa on the Ligurian Sea. It is a popular beach resort as well as a major railway junction, and it is known for its museums, the Palio del Golfo rowing contest, and train and boat links to the Cinque Terre.
