I was in rehab with a broken left hip. Had to wait FIVE hours for pain medicine, then they couldnt understand why i was grumpy. Asked mulitiple times, to no avail. Grumpy was all i had left.

Sepsis can be hugely painful and definitely life-threatening. You are so right the meds/fluids are critical to deliver on time. I feel for the overburdened charge nurse but if she did not have bandwidth for you then needed to delegate to another she could trust. Your life was in her hands. Kudos that you could advocate for yourself. I’ve heard it said the most difficult patients ultimately have the best outcome. Be agreeable when you can, but not so agreeable your health is put at even greater risk.

When my son was in Children's Hospital for his UC, he had gotten a PICC line. One time when we weren't in the room, the nurse came in and was doing something with it without the safety attire she was supposed to wear when dealing with it. We had always been really understanding and showed grace, but this was over the line. It was a safety issue for my son who was already sick and didn't need another sickness to deal with!

I'm a retired flight nurse. When people are in pain , most, not all, are so very understandably "grumpy." Patients who are scared are also likely to have , what at any other time would be unacceptable behaviors and temperaments. It is VERY NORMAL. If you are a care giver in any part of the medical field you should be aware of this. You should expect and know how to handle or cope with it. Good medical personnel should automatically know what to do in order to decompress the situation. There are rare occasions that you should call on another person to relieve you. There is honestly no excuse for poor or rude treatment of any patient. I worked in a high stress area that doesn't suit most people. On the other hand, working on a pediatric floor would not be good for me OR the patient. You need to know and understand your strengths and weaknesses; then choose the appropriate field. Anything less in patient care is just wrong.

A topic I’d be interested in is what you do when you feel like you are “drowning” or “treading water badly” medically. I’m in my early 20’s and only in the past year do I feel like I’m not constantly drowning medically in appointments, meds, home treatments, and therapy sessions. As someone who went from a little sick to incredibly sick overnight the balance is really hard.

If a healthcare worker cannot or refuses to understand that the patient may be a bit “difficult” then they need to find another profession. There are certain professions where being an uncaring human being isnt acceptable. Nurses get from me the same attitude they approach me with. Respect is earned, not automatically given.

Great comment. I couldn't agree more. I was only chatting today with my hubby about good and bad teachers at school. He had such a good history teacher who was really enthusiastic and produced a real love for his subject in his pupils - my hubby has loved history all his life. I had a horrible history teacher who seemed to be more interested in strict discipline than instilling enthusiasm - our lessons were boring in the extreme and I didn't develop an interest and love of history till several years after leaving school. That woman was academically brilliant, but clearly didn't like kids. Why on earth did she become a teacher?!!

In the UK brambles (blackberries) are planted as they form hedgerows that protect properties from pests and people. It's a common summer past time to go along in the countryside and pick them to make jam. Usually they are sweet, but tart, and no bigger than the top joint of your thumb

I picked wild blackberries all my life. I didn't pick then roadside because a lot of times, those would be sprayed. Well, on secluded dirt roads I could pick them as the likelihood of those being sprayed is minimal. I am 52 and still go out into the field behind my house and pick gobs of wild blackberries and make cobblers, jam and jelly. I grew up putting a little sugar on the berries, add a little milk and eat blackberries like you would cereal. I still do that at least once per year and I visit a small part of my childhood that way.

I had an awful nurse last time I was admitted. She didn’t give me my meds all night! And I heard her flirting with a coworker down the hall for quite a while. I pushed the nurse button for hours, yelled out the door for her, but she wouldn’t come to my room. I had to call the charge nurse and told them I wanted a different nurse.

I had sepsis after childbirth. I’m also a nurse and a light sleeper. I had NSS running, so I didn’t need a flush, but I had a fever of 102°-104° and the nurse hung the IV antibiotic straight out of the fridge. That ice cold fluid going into my hot veins lifted me right out of the bed. I jumped up, took the antibiotic down and laid it in my chest to warm it up. The nurse walked by and saw me, and came running in and yelling. I turned on her and yelled at her, asking how she could put a cold bag on a febrile patient!! She was so startled… she didn’t know that I was a nurse and knew what I was doing, and hadn’t really considered how that fresh, cold bag of fluid would fell on my poor, fevered body. I like to think she learned something that night.

Another wonderful video, Maggie. I love hearing about your day to day life, and seeing you in your beautiful property. How sweet, to rescue the little Monarchs! What a star. Blackberries - I have eaten the seeds all my life and no problems, except for them getting stuck in my teeth! Here in the UK a traditional autumn dish is blackberry and apple pie (a gorgeous combination) and during my childhood many happy hours were spent blackberrying in the hedgerows. These days, I puree the blackberries once I've stewed them, to take out the seeds because I hate picking them out of my teeth. The flavour is just gorgeous. Regarding the main subject of your video, a lot of what you said rang a bell with me - as a stoma patient. I've had several hospitalisations subsequent to my first (colectomy/colon cancer) surgery in 2013, including being treated for sepsis. During the pre-assessment appointment with the anaesthetist prior to my first surgery, he was careful to write down in my notes my concerns about not being able to sit out of bed for the normal required periods, due to my ME (chronic fatigue). I need to spend a lot of time with my legs elevated, and I knew that the physical trauma of my surgery would affect my energy levels and the severity of my other symptoms. After my surgery there was one nurse who got really stroppy with me because I got back into bed too soon (in her opinion). At that point I was having to sit on a chair provided by the hospital which was too high and extremely uncomfortable, until my hubby had a brainwave and brought my wheelchair in for me to sit in, which is tailor-made to my measurements and very comfortable, after which things did become easier. Anyway, I fought against this nurse who wasn't listening to me, and eventually when one of the staff doctors was on the ward, I had a word with him and explained my situation, and that the information should be on my notes and should have been read by everyone having care of me. After this I had no further problems. I already had foot pumps to help with my lower leg circulation and an airflow mattress. At the time I was feeling pretty vulnerable and my emotions were quite labile and I really didn't have the energy to be fighting my corner over this issue when the nurse should have been made aware of my situation. The scene with her got quite nasty and upset me a lot. This is about the only complaint I have had with our hospital in the past 7 years. Mostly people have been brilliant. There was one other incidence after my surgery in 2018 (which later caused my sepsis) - a couple of days after I was discharged, my stoma started bleeding uncontrollably and my hubby was trying to help me to get another bag stuck on but the flow of blood was making the area wet and it wasn't sticking. I eventually stuffed my clothes with incontinence pads (I looked 9 months pregnant!) and we went to A&E. I had to sit on an extremely uncomfortable chair for 4 hours waiting to be seen, and I'd been without any post-operative pain meds all that time. My hubby kept asking them to see to me and they said, "We'll get to you as soon as possible" and nobody was dealing with it. By the time I eventually got examined and got a bed, I was in a pretty desperate state. I know the hospitals are very busy and nurses are rushed off their feet. I had an exploding bag after my first surgery - I kept calling for someone to come and empty it (very early days) and they kept saying "In a minute, in a minute" until it was too late and I was left swimming in output. This involved a huge amount more work than they would have had to do with a simple bag emptying, what with cleaning me up and completely remaking the bed, and all the time they were doing that, I was left sitting in that horrible uncomfortable chair!! This added to my distress as you can imagine. Generally speaking my experiences with all my health care workers has been excellent. Our hospital has been a recipient of the Hospital of the Year award and everyone has been super-kind, patient, friendly and efficient, and has smoothed the path to my recovery superbly in most cases, and also enjoying a good laugh at times too. I tend to dwell on all the positives rather than the negatives, but your video reminded me that these things do happen, and if any nurses are watching your videos or reading the comments, I think it's important that they hear about our experiences, good and bad, so that they know the areas they need to work on. Keep up the good work. You are in a unique position, being both a nurse and a stoma patient - you have inside knowledge of both perspectives! I love your videos - you are so genuine and human, compassionate and understanding. It's beyond me that anyone would "sack" you as a nurse!

Also this is not a “bad patient” story, but it always makes me laugh. About a year ago I was transported to the hospital in the middle of the night for severe vomiting and really terrible (what I thought was) abdominal pain. (It turned out I actually had a pathological fracture in my pelvis causing the pain...but that’s another story.) Anyway, it was during one of the many COVID waves, so hospitals were packed, which meant my husband couldn’t come with me and they didn’t have a room for me so I was on a bed in the hallway. At one point this super young nurse comes by, and he notices that I’m crying. So he asks me if I’m okay, and I don’t have the words to say “I just vomited 13 times and I feel like I’m gagging again, I’m in the worst pain of my life, and I’m on a bed alone in this hospital hallway with no idea what’s wrong” so I just said “I’m really scared”. Poor guy was clearly still workshopping his bedside manner, because he paused for a long time and was like “oh...because of the uncertainty?” As though he couldn’t think of any other reason why a patient would be scared in the ER. 🤣 I think I said “something like that...” and then he moved on. It’s funny now, but back then it was tough to not feel understood the way I wanted to be, especially at a level of pain where verbal communication was difficult.

What a great idea! I have terrible problems with IVs because my veins are damaged by the 6 months of chemo I had. The cannulae tissue over and cease to work. I always request a PICC line before I go in for my various surgeries, and they usually say no, it's not hospital policy etc etc, until I get so fed up with the onging problems that they eventually relent!! How do you put the info on your phone so that it is immediately visible to anyone who might look in an emergency?

The bug you showed looked like an assassin bug/beetle. Best to give them plenty of room. As someone who grew up in the PNW, we picked alllll the blackberries! The small ones were used for jams, jellies, and juice. The Olympic blackberries were used for desserts and mix ins for hot cereals. As for labels.. I would rather be labeled a difficult patient over a drug seeker. I've had dr's walk in to exams rooms, see that I'm a pain patient, and the first thing they tell me is that they don't prescribe opioids. My response is always the same; that's fine, because I'm not here asking for any. But they still treat me as I'm seeking.

My hospital experience is more than the 'usual' patient, and so many things went wrong, so I started researching my own stuff to 'prompt' them in the right direction. After brain surgery number three in the span of may to july, i had to get iv cephtacidine and vancomycine seven infusions spread over 24 hours (this was in 2008, and Incan still remember) they would hang the bags, but not ask for how the last dose went and if there was any singns of allergies or other matters. The vanco destoyed my lines in two to three days and more than once, before hanging the new bag, I told them, the line was going bad, they did not believe me and half way through, we would have to stop and wait for a doctor to find a new spot for a new line. I suggested several times to have them place a new line when I said the old one was about to go bad, but why ever (i am a layperson after all) this was not picked up on. It was a 6 week course and after three weeks all my arm access points were shot. It was then suggested, I need a port for the rest of my course, because they did have worse luck with my feet and leg veins, and the central line they talked about in the beginning was apparently no option any more. Suffice to say, after surgery number 2 I was still halfparalyzed and at night, bell out of reach, I needed hiking up in the bed, because to do thatalone, I would have had to be able to roll on my back alone and be strong enough to grab the triangle and pull my body weight up on that. I called, and whistled but the night nurse did not come. So I squirmed and did my best to not get squised up on the foot end of my bed. It was the most painful night of all. Since I had no feeling in one body half, I did not realize, I pulled the central line and made a red mess in my bed, so when the morning team came in, they were shocked to see the state my bed and me were in. I was never so relieved, and my first comment was, 'please make sure, that my bell is always in reach before you leve my bedside, so such situations will be avoided in future' I felt horrible and the being squooshed up, paralyzed foot had some lasting nerve damage from that one night.

I’ve just come out of hospital yesterday and I can tell you, it’s been a difficult stay. Again. I always have to fight doctors who don’t know me and nurses who are just not up to par. I know, having multiple illnesses makes things complicated, but the fact that I have to check them 24/7 to make sure I get the right medication in the right amount, for example, is tiring. It shouldn’t be hard to put insulin in my iv nutrition when it’s in the chart, right? Or doctors who ask me when I’ve last had a bowel movement. I have an ileostomy and short bowel disease! The question should be when I last DIDN’T have a bowel movement! I get really frustrated and angry. Safe to say, I’m labelled a difficult patient.

I was in the hospital one time and the nurse brought me my meds for the night. I looked at them and I asked what one of the pills was because I didn't recognize it . She took it from me and she came back and said that it was a good thing that I asked because the pill was a cardiac drug and it would have killed me if I had taken it !!!!! You have to be VERY CAREFUL ABOUT what they bring you in the hospital !!!! Another time that I was in the hospital, a nurse came into my room with a syringe and I asked her what it was for. She told me that it was my insulin and I told her that I don't take insulin. She said that my blood sugar was over 300 something and the doctor had ordered it for me. I asked if she could check it again and she telephoned the doctor who said that she COULD check it again. So , she checked it and it was 99 !!!!!!! Needless to say, I DID NOT NEED ANY INSULIN !!!!! Someone had previously checked my blood sugar based on the blood that they had taken from my arm right below my IV in my arm - while I was asleep. THAT'S why my blood sugar was so high. That was a long time ago when I didn't even HAVE DIABETES !!!! I have diabetes now and (thank God) I don't have to take insulin for it. I just control it with my diet . I ALWAYS ASK WHAT THE NURSE OR DOCTOR IS GIVING ME BEFORE I EVER TAKE IT !!!!! I don't care WHO is giving it to me - I ask about it. Even if it makes the doctor angry, I ask !!!!! THEY ARE SO BUSY THAT YOU SHOULD ASK WHAT THEY ARE GIVING YOU BEFORE YOU TAKE IT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Second message Maggie relates to the latter halfof your video...I had a similar experience but it was the care assistant who wouldn't call the nurse to hook up.my time sensitive I V and oral meds - immodium and codeine phosphate - (which had to taken 30 mins minimum before a meal). And then I was let out of hospital with inadequate meds so I was almost back in hospital 24hrs later..Thankfully I avoided that🤞but I did send an email to ensure it doesn't happen again, to me or any other patient again.. Not a strong email for heads to roll but for best practice to be adhered to..think! They'd have a far bigger problem if complications or death set in. I was in a private hospital so staffing wasn't the issue just carelessness. And you're so right it's so difficult to have to ask for everything where you were so independent before and could do things for yourself. The nurses medical staff surgeons and care staff were so good just one care assistant that 3 or 4 times said nurses are busy or are doing handover..Aaaagggghhh annoying. I think we should be noiser and difficult then we'd get the proper time sensitive care. RANT over 😬🤐😶 PS I was not a difficult patient and I rarely used to call Bell but handles occasions where is what time sensitive especially that lovely drink before a CT scan I found it frustrating Caroline 🙋🏼‍♀️💕💉

From the short snippet of video, I would say your big bug holding a bee head is a wheel bug. They are generally considered beneficial in a garden because they eat “bad” insects, but, unfortunately, they will eat a beneficial pollinator if it gets too close. They aren’t afraid to puncture human skin, either, so be careful if you try to handle them.

Wild blackberries have been picked and eaten worldwide. In Australia they are declared noxious weeds in some States. Blackberry-ing is a great past enjoyed by all ages. My first total knee replacements under epidural with catheter. I progressed through recovery and transferred to High Dependency late afternoon. This was in 2000. Through the evening I started asking for pain relief to the point my nurse had to call my anesthesiologist, he told her I couldn't have any further pain meds that night. There were two other patients in with me. Somehow I managed through the night by keeping calm and absolutely still and made the most of any periods I dozed off which wasn't much sleep over all. The first thing I noticed on waking the next morning was my back, my gown and sheet felt wet, so I called the nurse to tell her, wanting to know why was I wet. Turned out the epidural catheter had dislodged during the transfer from the operating table to my bed. Meaning I went well over twelve hours with absolutely no pain medication following major surgery. No wonder I was experiencing pain. Needless to say I was quickly given a shot for my pain and went through a very painful bedding change. There was no apology, no nothing. Considering I was made to feel really needy the previous night. So there are times when nursing staff really need to properly assess their patient's reason for what appear to be abnormal pain levels. I could have understood the issue if I had been placed in my room, on the floor. But I had been placed in High Dependency to ensure my needs were attended too and I was properly cared for, which never happened. My next knee replacement nine months later, I was sent straight back to my room on the surgical ward. We should never short change ourselves. Especially in a lot of pain?

Having been hospitalized many times, I've always tried to be understanding to a busy nursing staff, but sadly there are some nurses who will take advantage of a patient's cooperation as an excuse to not check on you or leave the patient tending to their own needs which should not be done. Ive often wondered why any person would choose the medical field if they are irritated with ailing people??🤨🧐 In watching your videos, your personality to so kind in explaining ostomy information and is the very reason I subscribed. I find you to be one of the most uplifting and enlightened people who would be phenomenal as a nurse. Thank you for trying to establish such a well formed site. God bless

As an expert forager, I can tell you: There are no poisonous blackberries or black raspberries. The seeds are not toxic either. I’m thinking someone got them confused with the prunus varieties, aka: Black Cherries. The seeds of any variety of prunus; peaches, cherries, almonds, plums, etc all contain a chemical that is converted to cyanide in the digestive system. Wild blackberries or raspberries do not contain that chemical.

I was also unfairly labeled a bad patient. It was Thanksgiving and none of the nurses wanted to be there. I had a hemicolectomy because my colon twisted into a knot and died. The only thing I could have was ice chips and I wasn’t allowed to swallow any of the liquid. My mouth hurt more than anything else. All of the skin was peeling inside of my mouth. When I asked for more ice they took what I had left and never came back. When I couldn’t stand it any more, I got out of bed and went to the sink and rinsed my mouth out with warm water which felt SO good. However I had to disconnect myself from the wall container that was hooked to my colon to collect drainage. I didn’t notice or even care that I flooded the room with drainage. They had to get the hazmat team in to clean the room and they were super pissed about it. After that, I was placed on a “naughty mat” that would sound an alarm if I got out of bed. I tried really hard to be nice after that so they wouldn’t hate me. I was proud of myself for getting to the sink and back without passing out. It wasn’t easy.

I wish videos like yours had been around when I was going through IBD - UC from age 18 because you have shed light for me on a few things especially your video’s about the effect of bowel surgery on other areas of a woman’s body and how periods can be effected etc, so thank you for that. I’m now in my 60s , I had surgery when I was in my forties. This video in particular though reminded me of when I was in hospital probably around the age of 30 ish for the usual ‘trying to keep the UC in check treatment’ One nurse had kindly shown me how I was able to take my fluids drip stand with me to the bathroom and then connect it back again on return. Unfortunately due either to a fault with machine or maybe it was me I don’t know but once I returned the machine kept beeping meaning a nurse had to come and sort it out🙈 One nurse said to me , ‘well if you didn’t keep getting up out of bed it wouldn’t happen would it! ‘ I felt awful as hated wasting her time but it wasn’t my fault that I was very poorly with UC and needed to go to the bathroom so regularly! I will never forget that. 😢

I have never heard blackberries are dangerous whether you chew the seeds or not My uncle had blackberries outside his back door (wild type) and we would pick them. My mother would make blackberry pies and such. And we ate them raw. I have blackberries out back and they have never hurt me. Whomever told you this may be confusing blackberries with unripe mulberries, which can make you sick, but it would be hard to confuse a mulberry tree with a blackberry bush. I noticed also you have asters(small white flower with yellow center) They come in 3 colors. The domesticated versions(asters) are large, the wild version(which you showed) are small. Those are called fleabaine daisies. Why the absurd name? When settlers came here, they thought said flowers would kill fleas. Love your goldenrod btw! Hospital experience; I had one scary experience. It was the night shift and a nurse comes in and says:"I'm going to start your antibiotics." I said I'm not taking antibiotics cause I don't have an infection. She then said they would start my insulin in the morning. I told her I was not a diabetic and did not need insulin. She only then asked for my birthday...No more mistakes were made. Anyway, after I was discharged,I called the head nurse and let her know what happened. Yup,that scared me.

I always laugh at the hospital, because I get asked by everyone all the time, again and again, for my birthday lol! They are very big on that here in the UK. Your experience sounds really frightening. It's awful when you are at your most vulnerable, having to fight your corner over anything. Proper record keeping and proper communication between staff is absolutely essential so that mistakes like that don't happen. You could end up going into hospital to have your appendix out and coming out minus a leg...

One guess about the asthma is that the immunosuppressants or other measures taken to decrease Crohns symptoms also decreased inflammatory reactions elsewhere. However, your breathing symptoms getting worse as the nurse couldn't leave you alone is definitely consistent with a panic attack.

Just wanted to add even though I'm late, your bug is a north american Wheelbug (Arilus cristatus)! They're a species of assassin bug, and actually a 'true bug' in the terminology sense! I would recommend not handling them, as their bites/stabs are known to be very painful. They use their beak to stab their prey and inject toxins to dissolve their insides into a liquid they can drink - basically, you don't want them doing that to you, and they will stab if mishandled. They're a sign of having a healthy garden however, because to get them they have to have good food supply! They're really beneficial little guys, even though they're scary looking. 💗

Please do your own research regarding blackberry seeds and toxicity, you can eat blackberries whole but given your issues it is best to do research. There are very minute amounts of toxic compounds in their seeds but the seeds pass through you whole and present no problems. We used to eat lots of them raw when we were kids, they also make great pies.

Oh man, it was the second night after my colon was removed and my epidural was actual not in and my nurses never checked it, they said i didnt feel pain because i was getting my epidural. So its friday 2nd night after my surgery and my nurse when i was due for hydromorphone...its the middle of the night, i was quiet. So i walked out my room and my guts were on fire like a bunch of bees were stinging the hell out of me. I walked over to the nurses station and asked if i could get my 2mg of hydromorphone but instread of getting it sub-q i wanted to get it via my I.V. As i had had it that way earlier in the day and it was more effective at killing the pain. She turned around and said..."why do you want that?" And i say...."im in alot of pain...." And she asked...."since when" "I said since my surgery, yesterday" She flips out and told me not to talk to her like that, and that she would be in in a minute. She and the other fat nurse came into my room and we started to argue over my painkiller. She is in her 20s im in my 30s....and she is telling me that she is not giving me what my dr has ordered for me, because she doesnt feel safe. And i told her that ive know my dr for almost 30 years, who is she to over rules my doctors orders. She almost called security on me. She ended up giving me the I.V. because at this point im having a breakdown at 2am becazue i havent slept and im in excrusiating pain. They left, and didnt come back into my room that night. I was left all night and my catheter was backed up into my bladder and my dick hurt so bad. My ostomy bag was almost full and they never gave me any of my morning blood work and just left me to the morning crew. I lay there for hours watching the clock waiting for the morning people to help me. Thankfull my morning nurse was awesome and came in and i wasnt able to move because i hurt so bad. He looked at me and asked me if i was alright....he ended up giving me two shots of morphine to get me sitting up. I told him to get me out of that ward. He pieced it all together and he told my doctor about it that morning. And said i was neglected. That night, those nurses came back in....and everything went fine. But i tell you. Because i am "young" they feel they can leave me laying there while they sit at their station gossiping. And like you, i try to be as understanding and polite as possible, but at this point i was so tired i couldnt keep my composure.

Not healthcare, but customer service here, and a lot of the same things apply. I watched a woman go off on a coworker for literally over 20 minutes straight about everything from her currently stressful and traumatic personal life, to how horrible this coworker was because whatever she couldn't do was making everything worse. I always try to remember that whoever I'm dealing with likely has nothing to do with why I'm having whatever issue and reserve my strongly worded self-advocacy for the person who needs it. But, there are absolutely differences between someone going off for unrelated reasons, and times when they have a legitimate problem with something you did.

For any complaints I always try to consider both sides. In the case of the late sepsis treatment, I agree it probably was a staffing problem that the hospital needed to address for the safety of all patients. So do not feel guilty about filing the complaint. If no one talks, then the system has no chance in improving. Maybe you were complaint #10 which then caused a change? Maybe you were the first followed by nine more and then staffing was improved? Sometimes we never know, but kudos to you for not keeping silent. BTW would be interested in a walk and talk on the management of chronic pain without heavy prescription drugs or expensive physical therapy or a less serious walk and talk on the care and management of monarch butterflies.

I have a port, I have a jejunal feeding tube and a gastric feeding tube to drain my stomach. I was born without an esophagus nothing at all and a dimple on my stomach where the esophagus would join. My first surgery was at 6hrs old to place a surgical feeding tube, it took 8 more major surgeries to make a working esophagus until I was 5. I had a stroke during the biggest surgery I was 2yrs old. This is what paralyzed my stomach. It just goes on and on. I was recently diagnosed with autism. It’s not fun. I’ve been a bad patient in the past. Now I’m 99.9% in compliance due to my pain meds, 3 medical devices I have to be. I just made a complaint. I’m in Canada we can’t just got get a doctor you have to follow a protocol. I know this video was 8 months ago, but you got your ileostomy young, therefore u went thru nursing school with your ostomy....how did u get thru clinicals with lifting heavy patients and especially with total care patients? Did you ask for accommodations? I ask because I gave up nursing due to the fact the clinical coordinator told me they couldn't allow me, having an ileostomy with lifting restrictions, to attend clinicals as they couldn't reasonably accommodate my restrictions. The reason for my restrictions is because I had an emergency surgery to revise my ileostomy due to a large prolapse that obstructed last summer (I had my ostomy for just a year and a half before this happened, and I had my colon removed 5 years prior to getting an ostomy); I was granted deferral for a semester then told me the following semester that I wouldn't be able to attend clinical rotations. I'm just interested in what you had gone thru, knowing u also had multiple abdominal surgeries.

Omg as both a Crohnie AND the daughter, granddaughter, and niece of type 1 diabetics, that poor kid's parent(s) are SO lucky I wasn't the nurse! I mean I would've only told them the truth but probably not in a way they would've liked: your child is scared because YOU are making this a bigger deal than it needs to be. Full stop. I pray the poor kid is handling their disease well now--and that their family is. I get that it's scary to see a loved one with a chronic condition, I still remember how I felt with my mom's diabetes, before I got the Crohn's. But I wish some people would stop more and consider the fact that they're still not the one dealing with the disease like the person who has it is, and actually talk to their loved one about how the patient wants the healthy people to handle certain aspects of their disease. For example, in this situation, if the kid had been able to say "mommy, I feel more scared when you say/do that".

If you have allergies then you might not want to touch or get to close to the Golden Rod as it is a well-known allergen. But they are so pretty. I saw the goulash you made and I thought I saw corn in it. Do you have trouble digesting it? I had corn about 2 or 3 nights before I had my colectomy and it didn't pass until I had been home 2 or 3 days. I was very surprised when I saw that, I know TMI. I try to chew really well but occasionally something sneaks through like a whole kidney bean. I know with you being vegan you eat lots of legumes and veggies that have seeds. I can eat broccoli and cauliflower if it's soft, which I love to mash with butter and parmesan cheese, it's so good it makes you feel like you are indulging but it's only a couple of tablespoons of both butter and cheese. I had gastric bypass in 2001 and my digesting things are still hit and miss. Do you have any tips for people in our situation that has chronic pain and the only thing that helps is Naprosyn? We both know that I don't have much stomach to mess with and now only the small intestines. How do I go about getting my doctor to prescribe narcotics for pain? I am disabled and that is part of my diagnosis that enabled me to get on disability. My back is messed up and I have osteoarthritis with a huge family history of the same, both sides of the family. And when I get up I hurt so bad especially since I have to sleep in certain positions due to the ileostomy. Any suggestions? Doctors are so afraid to give pain medication.
