The guy saying the Tories have a majority of 90 is missing two facts: Sunak has lost so many by-elections that the current majority is just over 50. Johnson's "massive majority" was always a lie - it was a series of seats won with tiny majorities that need fairly small swings to go back to Labour.

In the local elections, many vote for smaller parties. Come the General Election, people revert more to the main parties, or rather the main party doing well - plus there will be huge tactical voting to get the Tories out. Barring Reform changing its mind and stepping down for the Tories (which seems very unlikely), it absolutely WILL be a landslide.

Keep telling yourselves that. The Tories need to worry about not being the official opposition. As things stand a majority of 150 would be, 'meh'. Not that a three figure majority is ever really meh. "To govern with a degree to stability, not great to be relying on Scotland" translation: English voters are worth more than Scottish voters, and by extension the voice of English MP's is worth more than Scottish MP's. The sheer contempt show by the elite ruling class to Scottish voters is staggering and so ingrained it barely even registers.

Why is this wrong? 1. A lot of people stayed home - the very people who don't care about local politics but only who's running the country. 2. Independents will not have the same effect in a general election. Everyone will know that the PM will either be Starmer or Sunak. They will vote accordingly. 3. Local issues will not be part of the mix. 4. The most relevant result of the night was the by-election, which produced a 26% swing. 5. Sunak is a terrible politician and he generally avoids the public as much as he can. This won't be possible during the election campaign. The more people see of him, the more they will want to get rid of him. 6. The direction of travel in the polls is downward. There is no reason to think we have hit bottom. The longer he puts it off the worse it is likely to get.

Huge logical fallacy there straightaway. What the current majority is doesn't matter at all. If they're 20 points down in the polls, and losing by-elections by miles, that's a landslide. See 2015- Labour had far more seats than the SNP going in to that election, but it didn't do them any good. The polls were awful for Labour, and they did awfully in the election. Of course, polls can change. But impossible to argue that they don't currently show a landslide.
