Thanks Lacey for inspiring many girls like myself to get out there and try skateboarding. I remember playing tony hawk's games when i was little with my brother, but never actually imagined myself doing what seemed to be a males only thing. I started watching skateboard videos again recently, and stumbled across videos of girl skaters like you and nora vasconcellos. I decided it was time to finally get myself a board :)
This is such a great portrait... for me Lacey has always been the one that let nothing but her skating speak which has actually become quite rare in the pro scene
Thank you for creating this X games and a giant congratulations to Lacey Baker on all her accomplishments, you are an inspiration and all around amazing person!
Vanessa Torres used to live in my home town of Modesto and I'd always see her at our local park. Funny ass girl. I'd always be blown away at her and Lacey's skating. Not just got girls, but just 'cause. Good style and good tricks. Not bikini babes or painted faces.
Respect! Skateboarding has always been about being who we are...and if outsiders do not like who we are... then they can call the cops and we will still hit that roof gap and split before they get there! Right on Lacey! Be you and be proud to be you!
That's one thing I really like about skating; if you rip hard its pretty much undeniable. Not many sports are that fair, so many factors affecting your success.
You GO Lacey!! Representing your true self despite other people’s bullshit is difficult to say the least. You are opening doors for others to follow and I respect that. Diversity is what makes this world interesting and alive! 😎👍🏽
Lacey is a true pioneer and legend! I started watching female skaters because of her. You would never think a dude like me would be a fan of a chick like her but she’s so dope you can’t do anything but like and root for her!
At least she didn't piggy back on other pros and companies like Lyn-z and nora and leticia....Also, stop with the lables. I don't care about her sexualilty. Care more about her content of character. Everybody got it twisted these days.
Let's face it, she wasn't as marketable coming up because she doesn't look like a model, but now that our culture is in this sexual ID redefinition, she's marketable as an equal rights LGBTQ hero. She has the talent AND the image now.
the best skaters have always been the freaks and always will be Lacy Baker is continuing in the vain of Elissa Steamer all the hot girls can go ahead and model they skate stiff with no style no art at all Lacy is the real deal skating is not about awkwardly, sketchely, barely, landing a trick it's about power, command, art, and grace , and that is Lacey all the way , shouts out to a future legend we got your back Lacey !!!
Lazyyyy * I genuinely liked Dalton Whiteside - I had crying spells, idk about him, but we were not supposed to be there. We were not treated well. - I am sorry Dalton @artstudentsleague
Hence why I was asking instead of assuming. I have not used any pronouns since I don't know what Lacey prefers. I don't know why this is bothering people considering your other comment that skaters are more open minded and tolerant than the general public.
wtf are you even going on about? All I wanted to know was what pronoun Lacey prefers. I don't even know why you thought you needed to put in your two cents here because it's brought nothing to the conversation.
No, RobotikEmpire is actually being "open minded". Most of us could see that in the original comment. Its just a shame it was a little too "open minded" for you, eh Stu?
They always screw over women athletes. Also, women don’t make the same salary as men anywhere you work! Same conclusions as you, in the long run it is easier to be yourself & just do what makes you happy!
I have 12 employees, if I was allowed to pay women less I would fire the men tomorrow and hire all women. I assuming you're 12 and have never actually held a job.
Lacey is a certified badass on a board and she deserves her success but in reality when you compare female skaters to male there is an extreme noticeable gap in skill level. One could argue it's easier to become pro as a female skater because you don't have to be as good. It sounds harsh but it's the truth. Look at the latest Street League comp Lacey was in she got third place and Leticia placed second and was given a 9.0 for an ollie into a lipslide on a rail, If a male skater did a lip side on a rail in a street league comp I can bet my life they wouldn't get given no where near a 9.0
I don’t get what her sexuality has to do with any of this. I get the “female athletes should be pretty” side of it but that still has nothing to do with her sexuality.
It blows my mind someone with this much success in the line of work they dream of being a part of considers themselves this much of a victim. Your literally living your dream... Get past the complaining ya desmond.
What adversity? A woman so naturally gifted she was EXPECTED to succeed doing the thing she loves the most, and she did. She literally became the very best at the hobby she loves more than anything. And in doing so since her teens has spent her time travelling the world with friends getting to that stage. Then when like countless others her hobby didnt turn into the full time career she hoped for she fell back into another role she wanted to do and again found success. All while moving to live in arguably the greatest city on earth against still while surrounded by loved ones. Then she did end up again in her chosen career and this time with even more success. And despite not being marketable in any major way managed to land a lucrative sponsorship deal with the largest clothing company on the planet. Seriously... what adversity?
you are totally creating a false narrative based on your own insecurities. That's super weird and uncomfortable to read. There is no evidence in this video that supports this perspective. This is a logical fallacy.
Drew Minatti I teach English, research, debate and analysis for a living. Your arguments are based strictly in personal bias and lack depth and offer no perspective outside of simplistic misogyny. Which is boring. Try again.
I love Lacey Baker but Its a bit "victimy" like everything else in America. I can't even nearly agree she was held down due to her image, she's literally what you DO imagine when you think female skater and has been her whole career. Props for being the bossest female on a board though!
Who else in "female skateboarding" looks like Lacey Baker? "she's literally what you DO imagine when you think female skater". You just wrote this (your own dumb stereotype!) in an effort to defend your ridiculous idea that there are NO stereotypes in skateboarding. WT actual F? You are now living proof that you ARE exactly what you think does not exist.
david Gilfillan whats even your problem? Lol ive liked her forever regardless of how she looks and i dont think really anyone did think she looked bad? Lol thats what i mean self victimization in america is so sad and draining. Youre just one of the million MURICANS who thinks everything is "offensive" in whatever stupid way you decide this time lol
Anton Wereta You're the one who sounds offended actually. Out of the 100 female skaters I've seen only she looks like her so where is she what people think female skaters look like. Besides watch MLB, Mike Trout is best in baseball and has no marketability so no one sponsors him. She should get over it.
when non pro skateboarders get new houses for blogging... she is the best i the world and as been the best in the world for ten years..... if she was a man she would literally be the next poster child wit her level of success.... this isnt 1996 pro skateboarers make bank, just not the female ones.
@@dbspaceoditty You're so out of touch with the world of skating my friend. Nike and Addidas can afford to pay proper wages to their pros and that's about it. Most pros have jobs, even if it's just part time, that or they live simple and can't afford to live somewhere like New York. My friend has been picked up by Etnies, had a spot at the X-games last year but screwed his ankle up, didn't get to compete, he's studying to be an architectural engineer, he has no doubt that unless he picks up a Nike sponsorship that he will be working mostly as an architectural engineer and being a "pro skater" would be his side job.
