The Laco Augsburg Blaue Stunde is an affordable modern flieger that is packed with value, with excellent build quality, finishing that is also backed by the brand's illustrious heritage in watchmaking. Let's see how it holds up against it's more expensive bigger brother, the Münster 42 Blaue Stunde.
The volume appears to be a bit low on this one too, but I've finally fixed my setup and this should get better on more recently reviewed watches.
Correction at 9:59 - I meant to say, "Thanks for watching", not "reading".

One thing to note: on the Laco website you can switch the movement to a better Miota one for ~50$ surcharge. The better one does have way better specs (I think it was -10/+20 and 60h powerreserve iirc). Would definitely recommend for 50 bucks

My 42mm Augsburg was about 8-10 seconds ahead per day, not a bad deal at all. But overall thus is one of the best vakue for money deal, esp at the 300$ discounted price I got it at.

Great review! Love the lighting and macro shots, definitely inspiring me to step up my review game. To me, the Laco Augsburg 39 is the only candidate for those who want a flieger from one of the original brands without busting the bank.

Thank you for this side by side comparison review. I assume the biggest cost savings with the Augsberg is due to the Miyota movement instead of the ETA. Laco, not being part of The Swatch Group, probably has to pay a premium to get ETA movements. Laco now offers two upgrades for the Augsberg and the Aachen: a somewhat upgraded and decorated Miyota movement, 8315, with 60-hour power reserve, and anti-reflective coating for the sapphire crystal. The movement upgrade is $70 USD, and the anti-reflective coating is $60 USD.
@BeansAndBezels
@BeansAndBezels 3 года назад
Thanks for watching, and thanks for the additional information regarding the movement upgrade. I was aware of the anti-reflective add-on but not the movement. Yeah, Laco has probably struggled to source ETA movements in the recent past, thanks to all the drama around the ETA "monopoly". Hopefully things will get better now though.

I got this model in the grey toupe dial they just released. Personally I love it and wouldn't change much on it except the lugs from 18mm to 20mm. I don't even care about the flat crystal (I usually prefer domed) or the Miyota movement. Would it be nice to have a handwind or ETA option? Sure. Heck, 15 years ago, ETA movements were in watches costing $250. But I'm at the point in this journey where if I want accuracy, I've got atomic time Casios to fill that function, so a basic Miyota is fine. This watch has a unique dial color for a Flieger that I just love wearing and looking at. It's hard to beat when you take it as a whole. And I love the blue lume! Works well with the taupe color and white indices.
@BeansAndBezels
@BeansAndBezels 3 года назад
Congratulations! The Toupe dials are gorgeous. I seriously considered getting one for myself too. I agree with everything you said. 20mm lugs would've been great. I'm not too bothered about accuracy on sub $500 watches anymore, as long as I'm not losing a minute a day. Enjoy your beautiful watch, and thank you for watching this video.
@caomhan84
@caomhan84 3 года назад
@@BeansAndBezels what I like most about the taupe dial Is that it's not a straight silver and it's not the same color as the watch case. It fluctuates in color based on lighting and it has a subtle sunburst effect. It very easily could have been a cold gray dial, but they avoided that and gave it some dynamism. It's my first Laco and I'm impressed.
@BeansAndBezels
@BeansAndBezels 3 года назад
@@caomhan84 I don't doubt the beauty of your dial. I was so impressed by the quality of finishing on the Augsburg 39's dial. It is on par with their Original Series, and better than 90% of watches in the sub-$500 price range. Laco's Basic series is criminally underrated!

Excellent photography excellent commentary. Nice one! Laco is a brand I've come to know this year and I'm liking them more and more. When I buy a traditional Flieger it will be one of theirs. I prefer the crown on the Munster and those unique lugs. Not sure if I'd pay the extra though. Alrhough to my eyes it looked fine on your wrist did the flatness of the Munster's lugs impact on it's comfort?
@BeansAndBezels
@BeansAndBezels 3 года назад
Hi Endo, thanks for watching and the kind words! I agree with you. I will be adding a Flieger to my collection later this year or early next and I'm certainly going to go with a Laco. It's hard to communicate the flieger appeal through a video or worse, a photograph. I think watches like these are best appreciated in person. There's a lot of soul to them, if that makes any sense. The Munster was much more comfortable than I expected. I thought it would be too large for me (it might look that way), but it felt great. It had the right amount of 'oversized'-ness to deliver a proper flieger experience. I did a review of the Munster a while back, in case you missed it!

Hi. I prefer the lugs on the basic 39 but it seems that the original 42 seems to have better anti reflection as the dial just looks brighter, much deeper. Did you notice that?

I am so confusing about the Miyota 821A movement, some people says is non-hacking ; some people it does.

Why does this one not come with a leather pilot strap like the others, the brown pilot strap would look much better than that nato. :(

@@TheBasti05 I ordered this and got the store to order the strap from Laco for me as well. The nato strap looks seriously skinny at 18mm, everything on wrist looks well proportioned though. I'm hoping the leather pilot strap finishes it off how I want it. The strap is due tomorrow! :)
