Lady Musgrave Island (Wallaginji ) is the southernmost coral island (coral cay) of Australia’s Great Barrier Reef. It is named after Lady Lucinda Musgrave, the wife of Sir Anthony Musgrave, a colonial governor of Queensland. The island and surrounding reefs is a national park with an impressive diversity of marine life. Hundreds of green, loggerhead, and hawksbill sea turtles, tropical fish and even whales inhabit the waters of this reef. The best way to experience the island is by taking a day tour departing from Bargara, a small town near Bundaberg which is just 4-5h drive from Queensland’s capital Brisbane. The comfortable tour boat will moor at Lady Musgrave HQ pontoon, which will be you base for the day. From Lady Musgrave HQ you can go on island tour and for a scuba dive or snorkel in the lagoon. Those who want more can even stay overnight at the accomodations available on the pontoon ($$$$) and go for a longer dive trip to the outer reef. The waters of Lady Musgrave island lagoon are clear, warm and relatively shallow providing safe environment for the beginner divers or those who want an intro dive.
