Ladybower Loop - Peak District Gravel/MTB Ride

This video is to celebrate National Bike Week: 30th May - 5th June. It features the fantastic reservoirs of Ladybower, Derwent and Howden, outside Bamford, in the Peak District. The route is a relatively simple gravel/mtb ride of just under 20 miles. Adopting the philosophy of Bike Week, this route has been designed to get more people out on bikes and begin their 'off road journey'.

For those who make it to the end, you will be pleased to hear, no sheep were harmed in the making of this video!

@@paulbates4100 You are most welcome. I wanted to film a shorter bike packing route at the end but sadly just ran out of time. There loads of options. You’ll love it when you get out there. There’s a simplicity to it all which is truly wonderful . I know it sounds a bit ‘cheesy’ but I find being out independent in nature very empowering and ‘food for the soul’. It all kinda puts life into perspective. Do let me know when you achieve your goal. Take care.

hi Julie great vlog I am a big fan of the peak district and off-road cycling mountain bike and iv just made the move and got myself a Cannondale cyclocross bike

Thanks for commenting . Some of us have been riding cx bikes over rocky terrain for years . Sounds perfect . You do get away with more on fat tyres . I now have some 36 's on the cx bike in the vid' . If I am riding really rocky stuff I have a great carbon 29er .

You should have a go at the Bamford, Stanage route . Lady Cannings is brill on a cx bike

We did a route round Lady Bowers (which was lovely) over Easter but it did include a section of busy (and fast) road. I think every racer from Sheffield was out that day. Will check this traffic free route out 👍

It is a long way around all the reservoirs. Think I might make this my come back from injury ride route. Lovely up there but steady 👍

You could add the beginning of the Bamford Stanage route. ( stay on Thornhill Trail ; cross the Snake Pass road up to Rowlee Farm ; along ridge to Crookhill Farm and down to Reservoir. This would be a gravel ride. There are lots of possibilities for mtb. Re: gravel extension A trip up onto Shatton Moor would also be interesting. That's the last part of the Bamfird , Stange route

That's so lovely ! How old is she? Got an idea. The route I used for 'Great Weather For Ducks'. Check it out. Start and finish at Middleton Top not Cromford otherwise she'll hate you forever lol

I no longer post routes on Strava . I use Komoot instead. However if you can't access Komoot I usually post a link to the file / Drop box etc . If you can't ever access the gpx file please just contact me and I'll send it to you

@@JuliePhelanExplore very kind indeed Julie. She is 15 but has never much been into riding where as a kid her age I was doing XC in all weathers loving it. I don't think it will be her go to sport but she loves the countryside and using the bikes to get out she can see so much more in one day. I'll check out that other route and have found you on Komoot. I'm liking the sound of the MTB Three Shires Head route you created so will give that a go soon. Hope to see you out on the trails, only just up the road from you in Fritchley.

@@JuliePhelanExplore agreed no not for her that would be too hard too soon, that's for me to ride 👍 - have you done rides over by Langsett Reservoir? Some of the trails that lead into the peaks there are super tech and fun.
