My dad was a honky Tonk man on the piano. and pretty damn good too. Their not easy people for us common working folks to live with. They have no concept of time and whenever something comes into their heads were all gonna hear jt. I miss it now but back when I lived it and things really deteriorated when other players would drop in iusr for a minute mind you. Next thing you know moms up cooking up a mountain of sreaks and oysters. Musitichens , gotta love em.

Dav Hi Dav...It isn't a composition..er Well I suppose it IS in a way, but she composed it as she played. Jazz piano of that style is usually improvised on the spot. She probably couldn't do that exact one again but as many as you like in the same genre. It's of a fixed construction, familiar to jazz players all over the world and they build their own performance there and then..on stage. There is a gag that jazz musicians never play the same thing once! Some player, ain't she?

Keeping a beat. A lot of the time, even subconsciously you will do that. But musicians do it because they tap their foot to the tempo of the beat. If you know anything about music it's not just random for the most part. It's played in certain speeds. 4, 8, 16, etc and some in between. Typically Western music is played on evens, such as 2s, 4s, 8s, and most music has a bass or a thump or whatever on the second note. Square dancing on the other hand is on the 1s and 3s, but that's a different story. Asian music tends to be played with 5 notes, or at least I vaguely remember my music professor saying that. It's what gives it that distinctive "asian" sound. Anyway, that being said, she's tapping her foot to the tempo so that she can play the notes properly. It isn't uncommon at all honestly. The most common comparison I can draw is when people bob their head or snap/clap to the beat. Same premise, different method of keeping it.

Beating time. Pivoting her leg at the toes and thumping her heel up and down.
