Prob the best she has ever skated (or at least documented performance). She has always been a bit awkward and stiff, and unfortunately didn’t have that cat-like feet like Yamaguchi and Kwan so her landings always felt so rigid (and consequently she either lands a jump or she falls very miserably). But the speed at which she travelled across the ice, probably only Midori Ito and Tanya Harding (at her prime) could have rivalled it!
I’ve noticed, at least in the ‘90s, that the French skaters tended to move very fast. I’d say Eric Millot was the male equivalent to Hubert. They both tended to struggle with their long programs, compared to their short programs, as well.
Tara didn't jump. She barely left the ice. Laetitias artistry in this program is exquisite! That opening lutz flew. Very interesting program. Wish we had more of this!!
I wonder who choreographed this routine with music performed by dead can dance. Nobody has used it since. Had she hit her triple toe combination at worlds she would have made the podium more likely.
Unfortunately she flutzes like Tara. So many women could not do a true lutz back then but they pretended they did, much like pretending the Russian woman do a real lutz today.
I like Laetitia Hubert for her artistic style. It’s much better than that of Surya Bonaly. I was telling a friend kinda recently, if you could’ve put those two skaters in the same body, she would’ve been invincible.
I remember watching Tara and Michelle skate live and was shocked how slow Tara was and how fast Michelle was. I think Michelle lost the Olympics because she skated slow like Tara. This girl here was fast and the judges always like speed.
