I stopped once on 101 freeway to help the person who crashed in front of me. I almost died as well . I would never ever would stop again and help on freeway! People don’t care and speeding and even honking on us instead of stopping the traffic and wait to clear the accident. For anyone in the future especially in LA DO NOT STOP ON FREEWAYS!!!!

Very sad. I started working in freeway traffic 35 years ago and can say with certainty that staying in your car and dialing 911 is the best thing to do. Have location, direction and any other details in mind when speaking. Drivers rear-end 18 wheelers that they do not see. They will not see you, either. I have seen student engineers break down crying when walking in a closed lane of freeway traffic. Same goes for crashes you are involved in. Stay in your car and wait for first responders to take measures to block off area.

Respect for the firefighter but, halting the freeway in one of the busiest cities in the world? C'mon get real.

All fatalities on the freeway require an investigation by CHP to gather data to help reduce these accidents. If you think this is bad the freeway shootings and tanker roll overs shut them down for the day.

I'm really sorry this young man passed away. But I don't understand why all these emergency services are on hold for no reason other than showing him respect can't they do that at the funeral or when they're laying him to rest on their own time. I didn't know this was slated in their contract I've worked for the city. I never understand either when an LAPD officer dies and all of them come from the whole LA area and stop doing their job like crime has ceased. I'm sure there are no emergencies going on nobody's having heart attacks fires etcetera right now in that area corrected. That was sarcasm of course there is😢

@@maidenthe80sla you mean as a former city employee who knows when you're not doing your job you're going to get written up. Who's allowing them to walk around like this this is in contract we're paying for this. Answer the question Mr know it all.??

It's heartbreaking sure, but to shut down traffic to inconvenience those who have jobs they have to get to, and they will be late. What if a school teacher died on the freeway, Would they get stop traffic and upset people's lives? It should be limited to funerals only, so the public has time to adjust their travel routes.

Somehow I imagine that if it were his funeral, and there will be one, which will be longer closing more roadways for a greater period of time…you will still have the same comment. If you don’t appreciate the close bond the police, fire, and EMS departments share I suggest refusing any services they offer. For the majority of the time, roads are not closed by the fire department for great lengths of time, that would be the law enforcement division. It is tremendously difficult to investigate when people are driving next to you at 85-100 mph. Trying to sneak around squad cars, or the fire equipment requested to protect them from being the next accident victim. Tow trucks are needed, and additional equipment, but nobody wants to move so they can get through to move the process along quicker. A side note for all: once a person is pronounced deceased nobody can touch that body except the coroner. So if you’re stuck in traffic, and you see a coroner’s car trying to get through, make a hole and you’ll move faster. Damn, just damn
