Open passing (red/fast advanced) group. NCRC said 1'44 and below were fine for this group, so I went for it. Ambient temps hit as high as 91, so I was finally able to test the new cooling. Unfortunately, it failed quite miserably. I was having too much fun in the second session being surrounded by nice cars that I let the oil temps reach almost 300F (not a typo). Power loss and cooldown laps really prevented me from keeping up. Sad face. I'm probably never signing up for the fast open group again until my cooling issues are resolved.
The day's sessions were marred by all sorts of incidents. First session was delayed due to a coolant leak at the end of the previous session. Some homeboy with a death wish got out of his car in the second. Fourth session had a miata get stuck in the gravel at 11. The fifth saw a car die at the bottom of 9, and a radical who slowed to a crawl after 1 because of some miscommunication (I think), which I almost hit. Crazy day, but at least my windshield didn't get a new crack.
Overall, my driving today was way better than the last Laguna day. Despite the car being down on power, I was able to PB by improving my cornering speeds significantly. I'm still doing too much maintenance throttle though. I tell myself it's to balance the car, but in reality I'm just overslowing and being impatient. Regardless, I should be able to get down to the 40s on a cooler day with similar tire conditions.
Next track day will be at Thunderhill West in a couple weeks.
255/35-19 Bridgestone RE-71RS (1st day)
19x9.5 ET25 Apex VS-5RS
CSG Spec CP pads on OE rotors/calipers
CSG carbon weave brake lines
3.2F/2.0R camber
Ohlins R/T w/ Eibach springs (575lb/900lb)
SPL endlinks (F80 front, A90 rear) w/ stock sways
Dinan monoballs
Megan racing rear arms
Sparco Pro 2000 QRT
CSF intake manifold, front and aux rads
3:50 cleanest 2 yet (too bad I couldn't do this consistently)
11:40 first sign of trouble from the RS
12:10 speed + late brake downhill = yikes
14:05 getting out of your car on a hot track when your car isn't on fire = double yikes
24:14 apexing 6 at 81 did not feel good
27:40 my car should have blown up with all this heat
35:56 sliding into 6 is not healthy
44:10 get the car rotated they said
48:15 so this is what it's like hitting the yellow curb
51:50 I love camaros
58:25 PB lap (1'41.8)
1:07:24 WTF moment
0:00 session 1
7:16 session 2
29:47 session 3
45:58 session 4
1:02:12 session 5

Sucks about your cooling issues. That new setup looked pretty beefy when we chatted. Im doin my yearly Laguna trip on 12/31 with speedsf.

Yea it def sucks. I might just avoid hot laguna days since it is so hard on the engine with all the long straights. I am also eyeing that same weekend. We will see.

@ 12:20 Yikes full pucker! Not a single driveby though, damn. Sunday was low 70s and 1s+ faster laps. My car was also dying on Saturday after about 4-5 laps, but fine Sunday. :\

I didn't actually pucker up too much (maybe 5/10). I kinda waited until the bottom to slow down since I didn't want to oversteer like he did 🤣. Glad to hear Sunday was nicer. Maybe I should have done that day instead to get a better PB lol.

It’s a good Sunday when Chrispy uploads track footage.

Congrats on the new PB. Now it’s time to slam this thing on bags and add a pops and bangs tune to unlock the M340’s true potential.

You're right - I'm doing it wrong 😂

I don't see anything in your parts list that looks specific to camber apart from the Ohlins. Did you do anything else or was that enough? BR Racing had a recommendation for me. I don't remember the specifics but it's about $1k parts plus labor. I'm just taking my time bc $$ and not ready to sacrifice ride quality on my daily. After another year of doing low key track days I might spring for coilovers and track tires.

Oh, I must have removed it from the list at some point, but I have vorshlag camber plates. FWIW the ohlins R/T with stock spring rates and softest dampers will ride better than OEM (non-adaptive at least).

@@chrispy28 that’s what I was I trying to remember. Assuming you’re happy with them, that helps to know someone is actually using them. Not a lot of ppl turning this car into a track rat. Thanks for sharing your info and for blazing a trail!

@@veryspecialepisodes You're welcome! As for daily drivability, my car is def NOT enjoyable to daily drive anymore. I would say these 3 changes had the most impact: race seat (comfort and not heated), high negative camber (lots of minor corrections on the freeway), and stiffer springs. Unfortunately, I would say all 3 things are necessary to unlock most of the G20's potential. Cooling would unlock the rest.
