haha so glad I could provide some entertainment! it's a little validating to see my car from your POV because the rear really is constantly moving around under power, I just wasn't sure if it felt exaggerated inside the car behind the wheel or not.
Wish I knew who it was behind me, I would have stayed out to play. My min speeds are 10mph less, you guys caught me so fast in the brake zones. Can't wait to do it again on good tires. Was good to meet you, props to making that thing so fast. I mean, for a "non-car guy" 😂
I think that's Steve in his new model 3 performance. Want to say it's stock. The cooling apparently is worse with the greater oomph. Maybe I'll see you at 5 mile and we'll heat soak together.
How much tire did you chew through in one day doing both East and West? You've run the 71RS more than I have, but I've found if I've done a slide in them for a lap, I'd need to take a cool down lap for them to somewhat recover. Seeing some of those segments where you're sawing at the wheel reminds me of how I used to drive the GR Supra...when I reflected back on those experiences, I agree that when that starts happening, its time to call it and do a mental reset and a tire temp reset too - everything is far too hot at that point.
I'd say I have about 50% life left. They look really f'd up after. I'm thinking 7 sessions at high temperatures with hardly any breaks in between and lots of sliding should count as 2 days' worth of normal temp track days. I find that the 71RS doesn't really recover during a session. My cooldown laps were more for the oil and water temps. I also ended some of the east sessions early because there wasn't much time before the next west session, and my tires were just so hot at that point (3 out of the 4 at 170+F). I didn't want to ruin them on their first day. If it was just a normal track day at east, I'd probably have done more laps just to practice car control.
@@chrispy28 Wow thats a lot of wear but based on the videos and what you've just shared, I'm surprised it wasn't more. I also agree they don't really recover within a session once they've gotten warm. Thats why they still are in the category of hero time attack tire. 170F is proper warm - also a reminder of my Supra days haha. Thanks for sharing the data and the footage as always. Keep forging ahead and excited for your build and your skill to progress!
@@nodrogkam FYI I just checked a couple of my tires, and I'm seeing ~4/8" left, which is more wear than my first 2 track days on the previous set (sonoma and thill west). I'll probably only get 2 more days out of this set haha...😥
Hm I don't think they hit it that hard, or at all. I had also assumed they needed a tow, but there wasn't even an all black flag, so it looks like they were able to drive off.
Just ordered the front H&R sway bar. In regards to the rear A90 sway bar, did it just bolt on or any modification needed? Also ordered SPL sway bar end links 😈
The OEM A90 rear sway is the exact same shape as the G20, just slightly thinner compared to OEM M340i RWD. Be warned that assuming your car’s balance is similar to stock, pairing an aftermarket A90 rear sway bar with H&R’s front bar will make the car oversteer happy. My car had way more understeer than both stock and out of the box ohlins due to my spring rates, so this setup just made it slightly oversteer bias.
Any reason to stick with 0W-40 over 5W-40 oil weight? I've ran 5W-40 on my VW for years and recently switched to an M340i myself and have heard mixed things about which oil weight to go with on track.
looks like we both finished off our 71RS this weekend...I'm impressed by how much longer you seem to be able to do push laps before it becomes entirely sloppy.
Nice. You also PB'd 14 minutes into your last session too! Definitely extra time to drop if you can get the same lap on your outlaps rather than end of session.
It's probably just in my conservative nature to slowly work up to speed. Maybe with the better brake setup I'll get up to speed even faster and be more confident from the get-go.
Do you have any issues with sound on a 90db day? Do you have to do anything to pass like lift, go to the left side, use a remote to close to your valve, etc?
Some impressive corners in there, just have to string them all together. My T6 off from the day: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-uPSDwYAIo4Q.html
My instructor was really good, but there was a lot of downtime in between outings. Still learned a lot which will continue to payoff. And yeah, that red flag incident was insane haha.
Good to see you again at Laguna, Chris. That you're putting down times comparable to my M4 in an M340 on lesser tires has me chagrined, but I'll see if I can't do something about that next weekend with NCRC. Sorry I'll miss you the following weekend - it was one or the other for me and that's what was available for friends and myself. Never did find Joe(?) with Apex, though I doubt he would have wanted pictures of their wheels so dirty. On the other hand, I did get featured in the SpeedSF post event email, so there's that (Trevor's skills are amazing). Such a joy to watch your vids as always.
Get as much seat time as I have, and I have no doubts you'll be putting down some crazy times. Yea I can't do the NCRC laguna because I'll be getting serious driver mod with fastsideways that weekend. Though I'm sure I'll see you out there in the not so distant future. Also, I just saw that email with you going sideways out of 11 🔥
I'm going on Dec. 30th. If the B58 setup is louder than the S58 setup, then I have no words. Congrats on the fast laps! Turn on advanced coaching on the Catalyst if you haven't already.
My car has both an aftermarket downpipe and exhaust, and it's way louder than stock. My buddy in the M4 CSL passed a 90db day w/ NCRC , so a stock G8X should pass. I actually turned off the sound coming from the catalyst. Not sure if I'm ready to be told what to change during a session since I like to feel my way through things. Thanks for the advice though; I just found out I can change those settings in the drive menu LOL.
I don't see anything in your parts list that looks specific to camber apart from the Ohlins. Did you do anything else or was that enough? BR Racing had a recommendation for me. I don't remember the specifics but it's about $1k parts plus labor. I'm just taking my time bc $$ and not ready to sacrifice ride quality on my daily. After another year of doing low key track days I might spring for coilovers and track tires.
Oh, I must have removed it from the list at some point, but I have vorshlag camber plates. FWIW the ohlins R/T with stock spring rates and softest dampers will ride better than OEM (non-adaptive at least).
@@chrispy28 that’s what I was I trying to remember. Assuming you’re happy with them, that helps to know someone is actually using them. Not a lot of ppl turning this car into a track rat. Thanks for sharing your info and for blazing a trail!
@@fearlessliter430 You're welcome! As for daily drivability, my car is def NOT enjoyable to daily drive anymore. I would say these 3 changes had the most impact: race seat (comfort and not heated), high negative camber (lots of minor corrections on the freeway), and stiffer springs. Unfortunately, I would say all 3 things are necessary to unlock most of the G20's potential. Cooling would unlock the rest.
