I just want to say that you are singlehandedly teaching me how to cook indian food, something that i have wanted to do for a long time, and I am so grateful. I have made your punjabi chole, aloo palak sabji, and, tonight, your dal makhini, and they are incredible. I am just adding and adding to my recipe book through your channel, and this may sound like "too much" but you wre transforming my life. I am a vegetarian (i eat eggs, but no meats or dairy) and it feels so wonderful to be able to cook such fantastic meals for myself and my friends and family. Thank you so much for this channel. I am enjoying dal makhini and the sabji tonight, plated over basmati rice, served with soft warm chapatis and vadhvani pickle, as well as some blueberries and juice. It is heaven. OH, and one more thing... I used a 1/4 cup of Chaokoh coconut milk in the dal instead of butter/ghee, and it came out creamy and delicious :) Thank you so much, and blessings to you and yours.
This sounds wonderful, and I now have it in my list of "to make soon" recipes. I especially like that there are no tomatoes, as I react to their acidity.
Okay... We love curries and i make them frequently for our enjoyment (many recipes from Hema, in fact, so Thank You) but after all these years i have a question: Is it customary to consume the whole spices when eating the curry? i temper Mine whole spices in the fat and include them in the initial stages of building the dish, but i pull them out (cinnamon, cardamom pods, cloves etc) before making the gravy. i have bitten into a cooked cardamon pod before and it was a TRAINWRECK in Mine mouth... Bring Me in the know please!!!
You could remove them if you don't like to bite into it but I like to keep the spices in the curry i usually don't remove them. I wouldn't say it's a general practice but it's upto the individual how they like to make it. 😊
