Lukaku is the very definition of a “streaky”, or a “confidence” player. When he hits a streak, and he’s full of confidence, he will bang in goal after goal after goal, but once he is out of that streak, he misses everything! I kind of feel bad for him in a way because clearly he can do it, but mentally there’s a major weakness with him, always has been.

Never seen a wider variance in finishing ability. Like his floor makes Nunez look like Van Nistelrooy, but his ceiling is immense. When confident and angry, for Inter, I loved watching him. And it's not like I can criticise technique, shot type, or that he's rushing or shooting unbalanced. It must honestly be just a crazy mental block.

As an Everton fan, I blame the mental block on Manchester United. He was an absolute monster for us, unplayable on his day. Then he goes to United and is asked to replace Wayne Rooney, in front of the notoriously ruthless United fans, and I think thats where the mentality issues we see now stem from. His time in Italy showed the beast that he was at Everton is still there. I think his time at United just ruined his confidence and he still is struggling to recover.

But at Atletico and Juventus, he’s amazing, for Spain he’s amazing. Lakaka is a decent striker, but he really is just bad, he has what you want, but he’s like KD in basketball, but he’s not good at what he wants to do. With his massive body he tries to finesse things, in his early career he actually did muscle people out of the way, and used his speed, but now he’s even heavier, but slower, yet he tries to be graceful, he should’ve been the box working on both feet and scoring headers, or shoving defenders away. He doesn’t play to his real strengths and he’s then had to deal with that in bigger or important matches.

Man it’s sad what happened to Lukaku. His ego went to his head a bit after being settled and lethal at Everton. It was frustrating to hear him every time he played at an international level batting his eyelids at ‘bigger’ clubs - only for him to get his huge move then completely shit the bed. Many say that he can't handle big games or tournaments, but as an Inter fan, I think his worst game ever wasn't against a big team or in a big tournament but during a Monza-Inter (2-2) During that game he wasn't even a starter but he entered the pitch during the 2nd half for dzeko, and from then he literally got everything wrong. At a certain point, lukak missed a very easy stop, and the cameras showed dzeko laughing as the next thing.

Zealand says Lukaku is the best striker in this group by far. I'd like to point out Dovbyk even though he had a bad start too.

Also, if he plays the same game ten years ago, he's the hero for Belgium because both goals would have stood. Which is also why VAR, as much as people hate it, is the right way to go, since now Slovakia goes into their second game with three points, confidence and a great shot at moving on to the knockout phase instead of being out of the tournament with one foot already.
