✝️ “I look up to the mountains-does my help come from there? My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth!” Psalm 121:1-2 New Living Translation
This is one of the most spectacular trails in the Mount Baker area. The trail leads to gorgeous views of Mount Shuksan from the shore of Lake Ann. The trail is rather challenging though because it begins with an 800’ drop to the Swift Creek headwaters. Then it climbs 900’ to a ridge above Lake Ann before descending another 200’ to an overlook of the Curtis Glacier on lower Mt. Shuksan. It is also very rocky and crosses several boulder fields.
Once at the overlook, several boot paths can be followed to gain various viewpoints. A climber’s route leads to the summit of Mt. Shuksan. Some paths wander around the knobs and ridges surrounding Lake Ann. We wandered around to the south side of Lake Ann where we enjoyed lunch with magnificent views. We then explored the shore and climbed the hill behind Lake Ann for more excellent views before heading back.
Trail stats: 10 miles round-trip and 2500' gain round trip (1100' loss plus 900' gain one-way, plus exploring and wandering the surrounding knolls).
