August 14-15, 2021. Mount Baker Wilderness, Whatcom County, Washington.
Starting off at Heather Meadows, hiked up the Wild Goose Trail to Artist Point, and from there went onto the Chain Lakes Trail, then turning onto Ptarmigan Ridge. Shortly before Camp Kiser, headed off trail to this icy lake. Which has an active mountain goat population. I saw a herd of at least 17 mountain goats here.

Fantastic footage of all the mountain goats! I've never seen so many at once, jealous!

I’ve camped at goat lake twice now, years ago, once a low to ground cloud bank slowly flowed across the ridge and then down into the lake like a slow moving avalanche. It was amazing, lots of mountain goats a truly beautiful place. Thx for posting this.

Did you make it to camp Kiser or beyond? I was looking to camp that far or the highest I can.

Not on this trip, but I have been there before. I think it would be hard to find a good camping site beyond.

No permit for this area, correct?

Correct, other than a NW Forest Pass for parking.

Great trip! Enjoyed seeing 14 Goat Lake and all the mountain goats- what a treat! Seems like it was really windy for you, how was it over night? You had awesome views!!

Thanks! This was one of the top highlights of my summer for sure! I saw lots of goats hiking Ptarmigan Ridge before, but they were pretty far away! And I've been close to goats before too, but never so many at once. It was a little chilly, more from moisture and dropping temps than wind. My camera tends to exaggerate wind noise when I am facing the wind directly.

@@MrArtudtoo Did you get out for many backpack trips? I only got in one last sumner, due mostly to the smoky skies and scheduling. We’ve hiked over to Ptarmigan Ridge a couple times and it’s always been pretty windy- I guess you don’t need a permit there- I’d love to try it too! Thanks for the great video!

@@JenniferLupine Only got a couple in myself. I had more planned but various things prevented it (car trouble being the worst one).

@@MrArtudtoo That’s too bad! I hope you didn’t get stuck on one of the remote logging roads!

@@JenniferLupine Fortunately my car luck was not quite that bad! For example, my starter died, but while parked in front of my house. I only had to get a tow once out of the multiple issues i had. And I was only 4 miles from home, so the cost wasn't toooo bad
