Yes I totally agreed with you, when they say Chapala has a ‘perfect’ weather...they meant perfect temperatures,not too hot-not too cold, but precipitation may waries from dry to wet, it has 2 seasons,

Love the public outdoor gyms!! Bravo MEXICO!!! I got bit by a spider that big at Shambala, on the beach in a hut. I chased it a couple of times, but couldn't kill it or see where it finally went. I woke up with it crawling across my chest and I had a bite mark from it.

Yes if you chase a spider and scare it. It will hunt you at night and bite you.

Thanks, Sandra. I love your videos. Your elaboration on the weather was so helpful. I'm from the northeastern US, so I can't believe you both get by without an air conditioner!
@SandraBegotka

Thank you. We find it no trouble at all here in the Lake Chapala area. Living without air conditioning in central Texas.....now that we deserve some sort of Tough as nails award for! But the truth is, I think we are healthier in living this way. I can't imagine going back to living in a closed up house. I'm glad you found the video insightful.

Do you leave windows and doors open? Ten scorpions in a month? That is frightening
@SandraBegotka
@SandraBegotka 3 года назад
About 10 in one year..not a month. We do leave the windows open most of the time- lots of fresh air and cooling. THANK YOU for watching.

Great videos! About what is your monthly expenditure including everything? How is the internet there and around the lake. How is it on the south side of the lake. Seems like traffic and crowding is the main drawback to living there? Are you going to stay there? Maybe you should build another small house there?
@SandraBegotka
@SandraBegotka 3 года назад
I plan to do a video regarding our monthly expenses. Our internet is excellent. Faster upload and download speeds than we have in the USA. I'm not sure how it is for other locations along the lake. I know that there is a lot of hi-speed fiber optic cable in the area. We don't find the traffic to be bad....only at certain times of the day down in Ajijic it seems very busy. The street is so narrow there and lots of traffic entering from side-streets causes it to back up a bit. Ajijic definitely has the most crowded feel....but even there, it's not so bad. We don't generally plan very far in advance these days, but we do need to go back to the USA this year for a time....after that, we aren't sure where we will be next. At this time we have no plans to build any other houses.....it's too much of a committment. Our situation is sort of "nomadic" at this time. THANKS for watching!

Sandra, do you use the head phones while sleeping? If your a back sleeper 👍 I found a headband that has soft Bluetooth soft speakers inside. Works great being a side sleeper.
@SandraBegotka

No. I use them sometimes to listen to my laptop if I want to do so while Dave is asleep. Thanks.

Hi. You said the house heats up during summer and stays hot in the night. Does it also stay cold during winter? I heard many houses do not have insulation in your area. Btw dried lavender at your doors and windows keeps scorpions out. They hate the smell.
@SandraBegotka
@SandraBegotka 3 года назад
It hasn't been cold enough/long enough to make a big difference. I would say the heat factor is more impactful than the cold factor. In the hottest times the heat/sun exposure is enough to saturate the structure. If it got cold and remained so for days...then yes, it would definitely get chilly with no heat. Insulation is uncommon in this area. Most structures are concrete or brick. We use peppermint oil...which is also known as a deterent. But I think no matter what...they are here and they will get into your house. Even the people who spray poison have them.....perhaps just not as much. Thanks!!

Sandra, did you like Ajijic ? I’m going in October for a month. I wanted to check it out, like that they have classes and groups going on. They have volunteers helping out with things in the town. I might just take a tour to another part of Mexico
@SandraBegotka

Ajijic is cool. It's a very cute town. Very walkable in size. Nice bike lanes along the main road. Lots of colors, murals, little shops with interesting things in them. Plenty of options for buying food, cafes, The Malecon is nice. It seems to have the highest concentration of ex-pats. Unfortunately, some of the ex-pats seem a little uptight to us. Every other time we go down there we witness a gringo freaking out over something. Yelling, swearing, road raging, and behaving in ways that draw attention...not the good kind. I wish I could say otherwise, but it's been our experience. I'm sure the majority are very good people....but a few bad apples really stand out I guess. Our favorite town is Jocotepec, on the west end of the lake. It is less "touristy" in feel to us and easier to drive and get around in and has just about everything we need.

@@SandraBegotka totally agree about the ex pats in Ajijic. We were living there and had to move out due to the rude ex pats. I’m Mexican and husband is white, he even felt that Ajijic is being ruined by them.

That is a scary vehicle.... OMG! I'm so paranoid about being a tourist in Mexico now. It is really a shame. I'd LOVE to spend 1/2 a year at a time there, but worry about violence too much. Why does it seem like you folks are all alone on the streets more often than not? Enjoy. I'm jealous.
@SandraBegotka

We happen to live near one of the smaller towns along the lakeshore. Near there, we've found several "backroads" where we take walks. These are roads that are less traveled and so we're often fairly alone. Also we tend to go places when we know it's the "light" time...the times of day when the locals are having siesta and there are just far less people out and about.

That part with the scary looking truck was totally exaggerated. Probably it belong to Mexicans that had no money to buy a new one. Nothing wrong with that...Still does the job done fir whatever purpose they bought it.. Don't be scared to go to Mexico. You'll miss on a wonderful time
