That looked like a cracking day out, just the sort of stuff I love riding. I've never done any riding in the lakes, being based in the Scottish Borders, the local riding is pretty awesome too 🙂 Definitely looks like it's worth heading down for the weekend. Enjoying your channel, keep em coming 👍
Hey Ricky! Yes it probably have not been there as you have some of the best riding on your doorstep :-) but it is so beautiful there, it is not just the riding it is the landscape that will inspire you
I think your channel is one of the most underrated biking channels out there. Very high quality content, funny to follow your stories. I really hope that more people get to know your channel ❤
great film BG....you guys must love hike a bike in the rain!! the scenery and descents were something too - go for it or go over! the chat at the end was a nice interlude too -cheers, great video/adventure!
Thank you so much, oh yes we love a bit of type 2 fun! And you are so right on those descents, it is go for it or go home. But an incredible sense of achievement just clearing small sections. So glad you liked the natterings at the end, was not sure if to put it in, haha.
Another Epic vid Barry, nice one, FWIW when doing this route its a good idea to Start at Gatesgarth farm (like you did) and do Scarth gap first as Wharnscale pass is where I have seen the most injuries and bike mechanicals over the years, its a full on route and not for the inexperienced, glad you pointed that out in the film.
Thanks so much! Yes you are right, I also feel doing it in that order you get warmed up, scarth gap descent is not that bad, but gets the mind prepped for what is to come, I just wish you didn't get to Wharnscale so tired and at the end of the day, even after a coffee and cake at honister slate mine :-)
Fabulous film Barry and well done to both you and Alex!!! Stunning views, scary as hell descents and banter to boot!!! Cheers Barry... and so good to see Black Sail Youth Hostel... had many a happy night there back in 76,77 & 79 on hiking hols with school friends!!! Look forward to your next adventure buddy and hats off again!!
Hey Paul! Thanks so much, it is hard to make such a beautiful place look bad :-) my favourite place on the planet! Have never stepped inside that YHA, been past it a lot of times, be a wonderful place to spend the night!
The chat at the end was worth hanging on for, and great to know you listened to your own BG tips! Big days no wonder you both looked cream crackered at the end. Great effort guys
Not sure what waterproof socks your wearing, but we did some Lake District MTB and I tried to cycle through a stream that became REALLY deep, then hit a rock tried to balance and failed, so foot went down... show was fully under, but the foot was still dry! Sealskinz waterproof with hydrostop are the nuts!!!
Haha, I have tried them and didn't work for me. It is more the puddle splashing that gets my feet soaked! But yes they do keep you dry standing in a river, I am surprised it was only a foot down, normally my whole body in there, haha
Fantastic video Barry. Really enjoyed watching this, just the sort of mtb I love to do myself. Don't know this route though, any chance you could add a GPX route for it to the description for us? . Love to give this one a go, though maybe not until next summer!
Hey Jon! Thank you very much, yeah if you like technical then this is fro you. If you just google 'Four Passes lake district' then there is plenty of gpx files there :-)
@@barrygodin7538 Thanks Barry. Love this kind of thing, sadly the Covid situation meant I haven't made it up to the Lakes at all this year. Did manage a week in Scotland back in August around Ft William which was great. I'm lucky though as I live in mid-Wales so have some great riding on my doorstep. Fingers crossed for a better year next year!
Great video Barry, many thanks, some really stunning scenes. Have you considered leaving strava links or similar in the descriptions to allow others to download the route. Do you know what the total distance and elevation was? Thanks again
Hey, thank you so much Lee! Yeah spectacular scenery, so beautiful. No, I would not like to supply strava links, I will do a video to explain this soon, I often go the wrong way and I personally find it is all part of the adventure to go under your own decisions at times, rather than blaming someone else's route. Also, give it a google, it will come up with gpx tracks :-) hope that makes sense, not trying to be awkward
As awesome as ever. Both of you we're on top form. Especially at the end. It brought back some great memories instagram.com/p/BaEHTuBHQzS/?igshid=fowwkt705lrx. Keep up the great work Mr B.
