Mid-February 2024, Neil heads out from beside the River Duddon, through Hardknott Forest (and a red squirrel encounter) and up Harter Fell. It's a steep ascent (Wainwright recommended the route from neighbouring Eskdale), but the views are stunning, particularly in the snow.

From the top, you can see across to the Scafell range, as well as out to sea. This walk is a round 4 1/4 miles, from the carpark beside the river, and is around 518m/1,700 ft of ascent and descent.
