Nice video in showing the young man how to be a responsible fisherman. You did everything correctly and tail hooking the fish with such a small fight was the first indication that something was wrong with the fish, unrelated to the catching. Proud to have you in the community! A nice teaching moment.
Sturgeon were stocked in a few lakes around SoCal about 10 + years ago. I remember reading about it in WON magazine. They were supposed to be catch and release back then. Really not much for them to eat in Lakes down here.
Wow, that's pretty crazy. I wonder if someone else foul-hooked this fish earlier, and as a result it couldn't eat to survive because the hook inside it is preventing it from hunting and eating other fish?
The Irvina Lake website literally lists Sturgeon as a known species in the lake. Just a lil-bit of research, fellas. If aint gonna eat-em, release him right away.
