Pronunciation for Jocassee is: Joe - Kass - See
@GetOverItOutdoors
@GetOverItOutdoors Год назад
Yes, thank you! We've had a lot of comments on this pronunciation. We were trying to respect both ways of pronouncing it and may have failed. In the beginning of the video, I pronounce it a few times as you have helped with Joe-Cass-see, which we have read is the more modern/English/local pronunciation. When my wife is narrating the Native American story of how the name came about, she tried using what we read to be as the Native American pronunciation, Joc-a-see. Is this incorrect? Do you have any insight into the Native American pronunciation that can help us further?

I've been through, in and all around the Lake Jocassee/Jocasse Gorges area both on land through the access roads and trails and via lake access. It's beautiful and mystical and magical and very ancient. One of the most beautiful places on earth, in my humble opinion. The waterfalls that empty directly into the lake are especially gorgeous. Used to be very remote and isolated but has been discovered by many in the last few decades. We are so lucky and fortunate to have it here in our "backyard" in upstate SC. "Take nothing but pictures and memories and leave nothing but footprints".

Hello! It’s Lake Jocassee. It’s in the far NW corner of South Carolina along the Georgia and North Carolina borders. The peninsula in the video at the end of Bootleg Rd but you can’t camp at it. It had several no camping signs. There were at least 3 fire rings there though but i guess people must have used them for day use or ignored the signs. Thanks for watching and commenting!

We couldn’t find any campsites along the lake that didn’t have a no camping sign. It was a real bummer. So many beautiful views and spots along the shore but no camping allowed. We saw multiple fire rings that had been used recently so I don’t know what the deal was there. Camping illegally? We did find some spot more inland there that were good and by streams that you could pull a vehicle into. That must have been pretty beautiful camping on 105 in the snow. It actually snowed the day after we left. We missed it by less than 12 hrs. Thanks for subscribing and commenting. Really appreciate it!

Beautiful and informative video! I'm from Western North Carolina living in Charleston, SC. It definitely fulfilled my homesickness. One thing I have to tell you, though, that would make your video perfect is you are mispronouncing jocassee. It is pronounced ,"Jo Cassie," and the locals call the mountains "Appa La Chan."
@GetOverItOutdoors
@GetOverItOutdoors Год назад
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you for watching and commenting. We were trying to respect both ways of pronouncing and may have failed. In the beginning I pronounce it a few times as you have helped with Jo Cassie, which we have read is the more modern/English/local pronunciation. When my wife Aimee is narrating the Native American story of how the name came about, she tried using what we read to be as the Native American pronunciation, joc-a-see. Is this incorrect? Do you have any insight into the Native American pronunciation that can help us further?

@@GetOverItOutdoors across the Lake on the west end is another area you might want to check out some time. It’s called Muster ground mountain. It’s a hunting area that offers dispersed camping. Lake access is harder to get to due to gates but you can walk the last section and there are less views but it’s very secluded and some fun wheeling. Definitely steeper than the horse pasture area. You will need 4WD due to elevation. It goes back in maybe 15 or 16 miles to the back. There is also a route that you can use to connect to Gorges State park when they have the gates open at the bridge that crosses the River. I have not been down it but hear that it’s only open on occasion.
