My Girl and I traveled from Texas to MInnesota to find agates and we found a nice haul and we just posted a vid!! Awesome agates for real, we didn’t find any beauties this big... but maybe one day
5:17 Hey man thanks fir that, I felt my heart jump a little lol when I saw the bands and then when you started digging, whoa nice. Peace to you Our BC agates are mostly greens and blues. That red is amazing.
Among all precious stones, definitely AGATE is my very favourite. Hope I could find agates here in the Philippines. I am planning to visit my Aunt in my mothers place near the lake, and hopefully, I could start prospecting some agates near the river..
DAMN we went on an RV family troop to Colorado back in 79 n boy oh boy were there beautiful rock gems in the river. I was 10 n threw them all out after a few months of collecting them :(
@@kirbycraft9325 Thank you Kirby, I have been doing muriatic acid for the past three years and iron out, because commercial grade vinegar 45% and up was not working. I have seen the use of Citric for removing carbonates before, but felt the muriatic was stronger; and for me it brings forth clarity and even brings out the designs too. One day I may try the Citric, let me know if you have used what I have and what you feel about it. Thanks, Chris
@@ChristopherSchiffermiller the citric acid does exactly the same thing and it's much safer. Trust me. I've had that black staining; I think it's black Maganese or something like that. Anyway, it cleans it off of ANY rock or mineral. You can see details on agates you never knew were there before. It's cheap too. I can use and reuse and rereuse the solution for many cleanings. Really, try it. You'll be impressed.
@@kirbycraft9325 Thanks Kirby and glad to know it brings out the details like the acid does. I will look into grabbing a bag of it for my next round of cleaning.
That is the enough volume for a vessel the Romans made during the 4th-5th centuries, which was reused in about C13th to make a Byzantine style chalice. Interesting how long the mineral has been used for religious rites
When you go hunting, you should always have a 5 gallon bucket with at least 2 quarts of water in it. That way you can immerse it right away to see what you have. I've noticed a TON of Jasper around you. Banded Agate is beautiful, so is Jasper. If you're not sure what Jasper looks like, look up charts on Google of RAW minerals. It will show, and teach, you a ton about the inclusions that are in Agate etc....Happy hunting. Those babies sure are gorgeous!
Gib- there are agates all over the Chippewa Valley, it used to be good picking right along the river at the crusher plant until they kicked everyone out in the 80's. This is the plant near Shawtown. There is better picking the further North you go, walk those lakeshores, people cannnot kick you off even if they want to, its not their property as long as you stay in the water. You can also dive/snorkel for agates in some of the clearer lakes.
I don't live in Eau Claire, but in Chippewa and Stanley I've found massive agates and when I say massive I mean over 5 pounds. At Irvine park I found a 13 pound agate in the creek over by the cave. In Stanley near Chapman within five minutes of looking I found a red, yellow, and green agate, 8 pounds. At the same spot I found a 10 pound piece of Jaspagate. Exact spot in Stanley I will not give away because no one else goes there.
Cheryl Eklund Hi, i put mineral oil on them. first i soak them in muriatic acid for 20 minutes and rinse them in water with a little baking soda to nuteraliz the acid. then i soak them overnight in the oil. then whip clean. hope that helps and good luck picking!
As a child in my yard I found an agate like this. What does it mean when things like this cross your path? I also found a huge round one of these, which I believe is called a Geode, some years later. When I found these... they would be right on the surface of our land (out of no where) I wouldn’t be looking for it, just outside playing in the yard. I find that so weird now that I’m an adult. Someone stole the Geode though ☹️. I remember my mom was showing someone it (the yard man) and then it went missing. I think our lawn service man stole it back then. Sad but true. We still have the other one (kept it safe). Today I just found out; all this time it was an agate like this one being presented/found in the video. It also has what appears to be a fossil attached to it, some kind of bone stuck to the side (the one I have). Oh! and I also found bismuth. It took me years to find out what that even was. I would type in google, “fragile/labyrinth/rainbow looking rock thing.” 😄 (I accidentally broke a piece off) Are these easy to come by in Florida; just right on the surface? Now that I’m into crystals and gems, I look back and wonder how as a child did I find these things? Just sitting right there. I use to just come upon what felt like gifts. I once found a pocket watch at a park that I ended up giving to my mom. I couldn’t have been any older then 7 when I found that playing outside. So the agate I found, I was in my middle school years. The geode was in High school. Wow! So, all throughout the years, then bismuth. Plus! How do you catch a Carnal Bird before the age of six? (On a big balcony. ) Then I just brought it in and asked my mom and dad if I could have it as a pet. Of course they said no. Lol 😆 I did that with a squirrel too. I’m surprised it did. It bite me! I could never pull that off now! I’m getting way of topic. I’ve always been a lucid dreamer as well. I would literally sometimes tell people in my dream as a child, that this was a dream and that they were part of my subconscious!!!! And my dreams would just evolve and evolve over time. I’m trying to figure myself out. Wow! Today I bought a green phantom crystal and I feel like my eyes are opening and I can’t understand what this all means. But I feel it means something. Sorry, I’m so off topic. Can someone explain to me what does this mean? I’m new to gems and crystals but it’s funny. They’ve been there with me all along. My dad would give me turquoise necklaces, necklaces with stones in them. He doesn’t even know the properties of it or the meaning. Ok, ok, I’m going now. Never wrote this much in a comment 😅🙈 ☀️ 🌳 💧 🌱 🌺
Gatto897 Agate is named after the Achates River AKA the Dirillo River on the island of Sicily, Italy, whose upper waters were an ancient source of this stone.
Semi-precious gemstones, in North America they are named by the glacier that was in the area, hence "Lake Superior" agate. Out in South Dakota they are called Fairburn or Fairbairn (not exactly sure on that spelling) agates. These are fortification agates but there is also Moss and Eye agates, and probably more I havent heard of. They are extremely old and the lines were created by a massive flash of volcanic gas underground and it turned all the layers into a hard, shiny rock. Many will have a dull skin, or outside coat and only shiny on the inside but others are all shine and lines. The outside coat will be dull due to all the eons of rolling around, and it may have dimples or pockets like an orange peel, sort of.
