LAKE WORTH BEACH, FL - Vanilla Ice is transforming a 1922 Masonic building into a pop-culture museum, brewery, and speakeasy. #heroesliveent #vanillaice #lakeworth #lakeworthbeach #lakeworthflorida
This building was home to Echoes back in the mid to late 1980's. I met so many lifelong friends there, including my husband and spent so many good times in this place. I am so happy to see it being restored. I look forward to being able to make new memories there.
I met him for the first time a couple of years back at the Daytona supercross that I was volunteering at at the height of the vanilla ice project. I'm sitting in my SUV taking a break from work in the race and he's standing in front of me eating a hamburger minding his own business I asked him if he was Rob Van Winkle and he said sometimes, LOL he hung out with us for a couple of minutes, I was flipping houses at the time as well so we talked a little about that, he asked if we wanted a picture just the coolest motherfuker mad respect
I lived in Lake Worth briefly as a little kid. Started first grade there at South Grade School in the early 70's, Mrs. Brewer, she was hot. Passed through there last year, school's still there. The bridge going over the intercoastal was new then and like an idiot I was biking down the middle between both lanes and thought I'd put my feet on the forks and coast down. I wiped out really good and almost got run over, skinned from head to toe. Good times. I'm in St Pete now, I'll have to check it out when you're done!
My friends, and I used to give one of the local winos enough money to buy themselves a bottle and get us a couple of bottles of MD 20/20 or Mogen & David (or Mad Dog) from the pharmacy that resided on the first floor of that building, then we'd scoot around the corner to the park by the tracks (no longer there/1st Ave & SE Coast St), and partake of said beverages! Godspeed with venture brother!
Any word on this project? I was looking for a speakeasy to visit in early June, but the one he talks about working towards in the video doesn't seem to be in existence yet. I ended up in St. Petersburg, FL. At The Saint. But I was unimpressed. The speakeasies I have been to so far are NOT decorated as if they were in the roaring 20s. I THINK some have tried, but it's not quite right. It is my favorite time period, and I hope he gets this one right. Art Deco, Streamline Moderne or at least a mix of Art Nouveau and Art Deco...Even some Postmodern (80's does 20's) could work!
