2-09-1994. A win at Utah would be a marquee W for the 94 squad. Malone and Stockton, two of the all-time greats? Can the 94 squad actually beat them at that rat trap Delta Center where the refs were scared of the fans and gave Malone all kinds of bullshit leeway to hack opponents without being called? Remember Karl slapping the shit out of Nick's arm in the 97 playoffs and refs ignored it causing us not to get a final shot off? That's the kind of BS I'm talkin bout.
==
Anything from the 94 season is highly rare. This was early in Feb before the trade deadline where the Jazz dealt Jeff Malone to Phila to nab Jeff Hornacek, who wound up being a boon for them. Horny was rotting in Philly ever since the Suns traded him to get Chuck. Smart play because Jeff Malone was on the downward slope in his career.

17:53 - "that's not a very complimentary picture...." with the camera focusing on Frank Layden's gut. LOL. Even though Chick was trolling, he did Layden a favor by directing the cameraman to change the angle. Now I see why you chose that as the thumbnail!

wonder if mark eaton was injured for this one. guy was a shot blocking machine but i always cheered for him since he was a local kid from cypress college and then UCLA. funny seeing malone rock the baggy shorts way before the trend hit the rest of the league

Another great gift from our friend NPZ. Yesterday, when I saw the video when I entered your channel, I could not believe it, what a fantastic surprise. First of all, I thought it was about the game that Reggie Jordan (yes, the Lakers' Jordan 23), where he scored 26 points and earned him his contract until the end of the season, but it wasn't that game, anyway. liked watching him play. An interesting game against one of the most difficult teams to fight in 1994 (Jazz, Rockets and Spurs) the kings of the West. Incredible how the guys from Randy P. Fantastic player Sedale Threatt a real decisive player and off the bench this time. It is a joy to see Rambis, Worthy and Edwards these veteran players teaching the youngsters (Van Exel, Peeler, Lynch). Christie was injured in this period, right? Thank you very much my friend for this jewel.

Thank you as ever, Angel. You are indeed, the King of 1994 Laker Recaps. You like these more than anyone save for maybe Davo B, who is a Karl Malone superfan. Again, no Schayes. I'm afraid I'm not gonna be able to come thru w/ that request. I checked his 94 game logs and he's never in any gm that I actually have. I still got two non-Chick gms that I just now considered putting up (that debut of Magic as coach and a good gm against SAC, but Danny was in neither). Ugh. Yeah, I remember that 28 pt RJ23 game (Air Regg), but I don't have that'n. That was the 1st game in this home-and-away pair vs Utah.

@@nonplayerzealot4 Thank you, I hope that a friend who is a member of the channel or someone who has those games will upload them one day and we can enjoy them. Yes, I would like to see Danny Schayes with the Lakers jersey, in one of the 12-13 games he played, since it was an adhesion to the February market. It would be great to see the other games you have. The lakers-suns intro to this game was spectacular. Thank you very much for all the contributions.

Chick was right about that year being a turning point. After acquiring Hornacek, they went to 4 Western Conference Finals in 5 years starting that year, obviously peaking with back to back Finals trips vs. the Bulls in 97-98. Love Stu, but love watching this in hindsight knowing he was wrong about that year/the next being their last best chance. PS: Love these longer uploads with the intros and other stuff. It helps add to the experience of watching games, makes me feel like I'm watching it on TV.

Yeah. They won 71% of their games from 1994-2000 with Hornacek on the roster; the best mark in the NBA during that period.

It seemed like every 90s Utah Jazz team featured Stockton, Malone, “Some big stiff center”, “a semi-adequate SF”, and a “great shooting SG”.

Neat stuff. Do you have the game from 97-98 season when Kobe blocked the shot at the end and slammed it home to seal the game. Del went crazy afterwards and was yelling at everyone lol
@JD37
@JD37 3 года назад
Lol yeah Del did that sometimes. Check out 94-95 against the Celtics. Nick hit a game winner and Del made like he made the shot. It was hilarious. Miss those days.

I actually do think I have a very shitty version of that. I hurriedly taped it that night on an old cruddy tape, iirc. Otherwise, I guarantee you I woulda put it up by now. The fact I haven't tells me that my memory is correct. If I find it while digging, I'll do it up and try to fix it as much as I can. I know the gm you're talkin bout. Del yelled, "Who hit the shot to end the game?!!! KOBE! The KID!" or somethin like that. Yelled at the crowd. Good game, Fox hit a halfcourt freakshot that I remember in my head. I know I have at least a bad version of it, but question is where. It's deep in the vault, my man.

@@JD37 I have 4 different clips of Del freaking out on my chan. Screaming and stomping at the refs. He was nuts, man. There's a 2/20/96 vs LAC gm where he got ejected for just stomping across the court screaming and pointing and as he went into the tunnel, he 5'd a fan who reached down to him causing the crowd to cheer even louder. It was hilarious. When he coached in MIL, he was pissed at a ref for not calling a foul on a pick or somethin so he went on court and set a pick on the Nuggets' Michael Adams. Adams did see him there and intentionally ran into Del and flopped, but it was all over the NBA as a blooper. Del set a strong pick, tho, stood his ground.

@@nonplayerzealot4 And Nick and him used to butt heads! Ironically, if you count the time he was an assistant coach for Dallas, the only times Nick ever made the playoffs was with him. Interesting little life factoid.

@@JD37 Yeah, they figured out how to get along like Rodney King said only AFTER they both leave the Lakers. They had maybe 5-6 different spats. First warning sign was a 46 pt loss at PORT in Jan 95 where Nick came out of halftime and didn't walk onto the floor. He just sat on the bench and Del was afraid to ask him what the F. They had to claim it was a misunderstanding, but that kinda thing continued. Nick had authority issues and especially when it's an old school white guy who literally yells/screams at players. Del was old school meaning Socrates' lectures at the amphitheater.

Do you have the Lakers first visit to Portland in the 1993-94 season? It was a Portland blowout but great memories of Cliff Robinson and Jerome Kersey. Also a Lakers visit to Minnesota early in the same season? a Lakers win by 4 if I remember correctly.
