LeBron's the prime example of how the best plans of mice and men often go awry, and that's not a knock on his talent both as a player and a basketball mind. But the man would play all 5 positions, head coach, and GM if he could and that's sets him up for failure every time. Miami, Cleveland, and the Bubble proved that if the responsibility is shared and not centralized, his strengths are amplified and his weaknesses are covered for him. In short, not everything has to revolve around him.

One being Magic Johnson. Which fits Lebron better. Where he gets tripped up I find comes from his second inspiration being Jordan and all the pressures that come with that. There is Michael Jordan the Basketball player and the idea of Michael Jordan. Jordan was such a magnificent basketball player who could scorch a team if he took things personally.. Lebron gets so caught up in trying to be the idealized version of MJ be betrays his own basketball... He tries making systems that are built around him - but Lebron works better when he's not the center piece. I think somewhere in Lebron's development he never allowed himself to trust in his team and his true style of basketball. There have been many people chasing Jordan since Jordan left. We see glimers of it in great ball players through the last 20 years. Kobe is the closest we've gotten to Jordan but why is that? It's not just because of the mentality, or the skill set... it's because when Kobe was compared to Jordan - Kobe walked away from that. "I don't want to be the next Michael Jordan, I only want to be Kobe Bryant." And this manifested in "Mamba mentality" Kobe's own unique brand of basketball.
