Shoutout to all our viewers who walked Lakota Bae through the Navajo way of making tortilla! Thank you all, like & subscribe if you haven't. Mail: Po Box 354 Porcupine, SD 57772
Hi this always works for me 4 cups of flour 3 teaspoons baking powder 1 teaspoon salt Add warm water no measurement on this one, don’t add too much water at once just add water as you go kneading it. Cover it for 10 to 15 minutes. If you make it sticky just add a little bit of flour. Usually, I mixed this ingredients to make a whole batch store it in zip lock bags for the next time I make tortillas or fry bread. Same ingredients and measurements for both.
I think you did real good making your tortilla bread. It defiantly makes a difference when you roll it out. Great job. And of course you have some wonderful testers there. Enjoy. 😊❤️🦋
U cant handle the dougt for too long That was my grandmas advice to me...dont handle too much. Now my bread is almost as good as my grandmas and my moms
That's so cool! I would use cups and measuring spoons for now until you are able to eyeball it. You will get it🙌🏼 Pretty soon you will be slanging breakfast burritos👍🏼
Nice and tasty..thank you Lakota Bae...I make the same recipe and I put it on a pan..my husband like it and my son also the recipe is like Navajos fry bread ..and then I put it inside cheese and ham..like tost..
This is the best recipe I always use. (It never fails) The shortening tends to make your dough softer. 4 cups flour 2 teaspoons baking powder 1 teaspoon salt 3 tablespoons shortening 1 1/2 cups warm water (not boiling), approximately Mix all dry ingredients. Cut shortening into dry ingredients. Add water a little at a time, to make a medium dough (soft but not sticky). Knead until smooth. Cover and let the dough rest. I found it easier to use a rolling pin when I first learned. Then you can stretch it out to make it round. **Always make a small tortilla to make sure your griddle is hot enough. Then go from there .
Good job on the tortillas. Waay too much baking powder. Next time a pinch an an pinch more of salt... but it's a learning curve. U will get bettr evrytime u make them... u will perfect a recipe...

You can use a towel, plate, or something else besides a plastic bag as well. But it awesome your trying Angel. Give it some more tries and you’ll be an expert. 👍🏽 had to say wow at least your not giving up or getting mad about it. Your a good awesome woman to Darwin and baby twindians. Every time we go home my mom make bread and our kids love it and eat it all first.
Nice job. My recipe is 4 cups flour, tsp salt, 1 1/2 tablespoons baking powder. I usually use this for fry bead and maybe 1 tbls baking powder for tortillas. Usually 2 cups warm water. For this amount of flour. Definitely use a hot pan. Oh yes, I ALWAYS use a rolling pin. ☺ I am late 40's and not perfect whatsoever. Keep practicing.
Ooooooo!! You did amazing!! I’m proud of you, put some butter on it. Good in-law status, some Navajo gals don’t even try to make bread, and you proved yourself ❤️👍🏽
What year did your sister graduate from Dartmouth? My niece graduated from there in 2017 and we drove from NM to New Hampshire to attend the graduation.

Good Job Angel!! Yes, practice, practice, and practice. You did very good on your 1st try. I was there too, my dough was all hard as a young lady learning. You learn and get better at it every time.
I actually use a kitchen aid to help make my dough….it’s the best way to make dough…but you did amazing with your making tortillas!! They are beautiful!!
If he likes it ,that means it's good no matter what shape it is , the taste matters ,so Angel you did a good job ,now get ready for the fry bread ...good job 👍👍👍👍👍🤗
Tortillas look good. Good job! Proud of you Lakota Bae. Navajo men always enjoy hot tortillas or hot frybread with their meal. Believe me, my 1st attempt my bread was hard. I kept trying it so really practice makes perfect.
4 cups flour 1 tablespoon baking powder 1 1/2 cups lukewarm water After you mix let it sit for about 20 to 30 minutes, cover and put it some place warm like a microwave. You're welcome. 😃
