LJ is the reason the ravens have been in playoff contention every year since he went 6-1 his rookie season. Lamar has been doing the most with the least. Two things can be true at once. The defense is playing the best they've played in years. Leading in sacks, second best in scoring, tons of takeaways, but lets' look at Lamar's stats a little closer. 12th in passing yards which isn't surprising considering the Ravens have the #1 rushing offense in the NFL which puts them #5 in total offense. He's 5th in yards per attempt behind Brock Purdy, C.J. Stroud, Dak Prescott, and Tua. He's 6th in completion percentage. 18 total touchdowns ties him for 8th. Only 5 picks this season. This is also under a brand new OC, who took a few weeks to get the offense back on track. He's also now missing his best weapon in Mark Andrews. I'd say the guy has performed just fine up till now.

The question is crazy, in the Ravens 3 three losses this year they went into the 4th quarter with double digit leades and the defense didn't hold. On top of that in two of those games the offense gave them over 24 points. So Lamar needs to score more than 30 a game with the defense giving more than 30???? Thats crazy...

Been a ravens fan since inception, and every Raven's fan for any amount of time will know this is true: The Ravens are ALWAYS under the radar and never get the media coverage for how good they are. If they were to smack the chiefs 48 to 3.... the media headlines would never be: "Can anyone stop the Ravens? How good are the Ravens?" It will always be: "Have the chiefs lost it? What's wrong with the chiefs?" Happens every year, including the year Lamar won unanimous MVP. we had a little bit of press coverage for when lamar was having his contract drama... but otherwise? 0.

The ultimate “proof” that would shut people up is if Lamar had a ton of passing TD’s.. but no team in the NFL, other than the Niners, run the ball more while within 10 yards of the endzone than the Ravens.. if they aren’t running so much he’d have passing TD’s but I think he’ll take wins over passing TD’s any day

Plus in all three losses, the normally reliable special teams crapped the bed. If Justin Tucker doesn't miss two field goals in the Buffalo game, Lamar doesn't throw the pick-six and get knocked out. Its more bad luck than anything. Although in 2019 that game against the Titans broke Greg Roman and Wink Martindale badly. Neither of them has recovered from that loss and hopefully Harbs isn't next.

@@michaelhession2105 As usual Ifs , Buts and Becauses from Raven fans. Lamar threw that pick right to the defender and gave the Bills that 6 points with 58 seconds to go in the 3rd. It wasn't bad luck. With 5 seconds to go in the 3rd Lamar intentionally grounded the ball drawing the penalty and was injured. Lamar was done after going 14/24 for 162 yards 0 TD - 1 INT. Lamar's production in the post season has been drastically inferior compared to regular season.

The ravens defense closing out a game vs the chargers was rare. They have not been clutch in close games. They let Watson go 14/14 with a broken shoulder & win the game lol. It’s so many other examples of their defense choking late in games.

The defense was 19th in points allowed in 2021 and Lamar's record was 7-5 which was his worst season by far. Every other year the Ravens have been 2nd or 3rd in points allowed since Lamar came into the league. Not coincidental at all.

The Ravens's Defense is arguably the best Defense in the league (Browns, 49ers, etc,). The Ravens run the ball on purpose to control the time of possession. This masks how well Lamar is playing statistically. They are the #1 running offense and are the 20th best passing offense. That is by design. It keeps the other offense OFF THE FIELD. Jackson is the top rushing QB and only 22 running backs are ahead of him in rushing yards. His completion % is high and he doesn't throw interceptions. He gets stripped sacked more than he should but that is because his Left Tackle is playing injured and beat often. Stroud, Lamar, Hurts, Tyreke Hill, and Christian McCaffrey are the best perfomers this season.

That defense is killing. I'm a Steelers fan and I can appreciate how The Ravens defense is playing. The Ravens have a excellent franchise. Every team has receivers that drop balls but Lamar fans love to bring up the drops by his receivers because his passing stats are really average

People like you only see passing stats = td-int. Nevermind his outstanding comp % or rushing yds. Lamar takes what the defense gives him and gets wins. Nobody cares less about "stats" than Lamar.

Give Lamar AJ or smitty bc as good as zay has been and Odell has been good they’re not better than either of those two. The only top qb who has worse weapons is mahomes and maybe Herbert

So the Ravens have 22 rushing touchdowns as a team with no primary running back that tells me Lamar is marching the team down the field and the running backs are punching it in the end zone so don't get it confused folks

Obviously, it's not him. They win in spite of him, every season...but because of him (well, really because of the head coach, as he probably makes the decision on who they start at quarterback), they can't get anywhere in the post-season. If they make Tyler Huntly QB1 and switch Lamar Jackson to other positions (rb/wr/kr, etc.), they would EXPONENTIALLY increase their chances of getting to (and winning) the Super Bowl. That would make them more dynamic than any other team. I know, most people can't comprehend this...that's why I am far better-suited to be an NFL GM than most people. ;)

People focusing on pass TDs don't watch Ravens games. It's the pass game that gets them to the end zone, Gus just steals all the TDs cuz defenses can't stop the end zone runs. It's just that when the defense is THAT good, it's hard not to say the defense isn't more important than the offense

The defense also lost 2 games, they couldn't stop the browns from scoring. People forget how time of possession on offense is actually helping the defense....look at chargers, they have good defense but they stay on the field all game due to chargers passing the ball alot...same for Bengals

Lamar’s the best player on the Ravens simply because he does everything on offense but he has not been clean. He having a great season but has 11 TOs, & the defense has been playing really good which why are 9-3. If the defense was bad they probably be like 6-6 rn or something like that.

It’s a team game, you need both offense and defense to be great. With that said, the Ravens had a double digit lead in the 4th quarter for all 3 of there losses. The defense couldn’t hold up late.

Defenses are catching up to the offenses. It happens every so often when then the offenses get way ahead of them. Also stop acting like a non qb will ever win mvp again. No matter what they will hand to an undeserving qb over any ither position. 2014 jjwatt had defensihe player of the year and had tds at te. If he didnt get no other position ever will. He wrecked games on defense AND scaored tds on offense and still didnt get it. Stop acting like they won't just default to a random qb. They always do.

I'd say you were correct except in one instance, if a position player sets a season record. So for example, if Tyreek Hill or AJ Brown break Megatron's single season receiving yards record, I think they would likely end up with the MVP based on the record setting seasonal performance. There's also an argument that Daron Bland could take it with the record setting number of pick 6's. But under normal circumstances you are correct, it will almost always be a QB unless a record is broken.

Its not supposed to be. But they make it thst wayn it should just be done away with and let this talk become best qb award which already exist. Don't give other players hope for an award they have literally zero chance to win. Its crazy. Best player on the best team? For an individual award? Thats crazy to me.

@@nathanhundley5347 In some ways it's because of the outsized impact that QB play has on a team. A WR can't impact the team as much as QB can. With how offenses are designed RB's aren't even the focus of offenses anymore. Defensive players don't accumulate the stats to qualify (though I think Myles Garrett has a real argument this year but that's besides the point). I'd actually argue this is a good year for a non-QB to win it since no QB has really separated themselves to the point where it's a no brainer. Even guys like Mahomes are not having the same level of statistical dominance they normally have.

Passing is always more dangerous especially for receivers. I understand it's a must, but keep it under control. Baltimore running has always been safer. They don't fumble as often running.

It's ok to accept that Lamar is not the best at reading defenses. I rarely see a marquee QB hold on to the ball as much as he has and take as many sacks as he has because of it. He's (and Burrow) among the leaders in sacks for starting QB since 2020 when Hurts, Herbert, Tua, Burrow came into the league. It has little to do with running the ball more than passing. Now with Todd Monken, he can still get better. But his passing game is really holding him back via his own play and not the system, coordinator, offensive personnel, etc.,.
